Virtavia B-36H for MSFS Released to Marketplace 3/6

Thanks Phil... At least I don't have to mess about with bits of texture sheets now....!

My reference books show the cockpit much darker. Black being the dominant colour.
Agree with that. Observations for improvements: The green interior seems a bit bright. IMO, the cockpit look is the best part of this offering. I only wish V had put a little more effort into the polished exterior skin and panel lines, add a few more polys to curved items as FS2020 could easily support them. Trailing smoke effects missing from the prop engines. Does not appear to have any contrail effects. Above a certain altitude, the engine audio is muted. I tried to bring it into FS2024 without success. That's probably blocked by Microsoft. The aircraft adds that 1950s nostalga we are looking for.

Gotta get used to painting in MSFS - may need some help. But this is a B-36D 44-92026 of the 7th Bomb Wing, 8th Air Force around 1951. The fuselage is a first attempt and uses the old P3Dv5 paint as a basis. I've yet to do the wings but they will be done similarly.

I'm going to re-make the panel lines and rivets and... Oh sh*t!! ...I've left the old anti-glare panel in the green channel!!:banghead: Ah well, you get the idea! As I was saying, I'm going to remake the panels/rivets and make new normal maps (with which I might need a hand).

Oh wow Mr. Q. That looks great!

Oh, yay. That way we can get it into FS2024 without waiting on MS to port it over to the new Marketplace. Thanks for the heads-up, @noddy !

Now available at Simmarket.

"This product features our simInstaller technology and is available after purchase via our APP only."

Does anyone know how this simInstaller technology works and why it can be accessed only via an APP?

Thanks,

Tommy

Except for the blah blah, it just means that you can only install this addon via the simmarket app. You cannot install it using the site.

Personally, it's preferable to installing it using the marketplace. If only because it will install in the community folder and all files will be editable.

Thanks for the explanation.

Can someone please run me through how to create new texture files please? There's no aircraft.cfg file afaict. Atm I'm simply copying the single texture file and lobbing in my repainted files from the paint kit.

Thanks

DaveQ

hmm Dave,
There is an aircraft.cfg but you won't use that no more for repaints.
If you downloaded it somewhere , the procedure is as follows:
Unzip it and than drag the folder containing the layout.json and manifest.json directly into your community folder.
That should do the trick. So no more messing around with the original aircraft.

I got the B-36 from Marketplace and it went to the Official folder. Can it be moved to Community? And I've updated the json files with layout generator but still no show.

DaveQ

Nonono , just leave the 36 where it is. I meant the downloaded repaint goes to community. Not into the plane itself.

Thanks Spook48. But the repaint is one I've created, not a d/l. My problem is I don't know how to create and add a new texture folder in MSFS unless there's an aircraft.cfg file to add it to. I have successfully added textures to Rob Richardson's Banshee and Cougar. Other than that I've stayed with P3DV5.3.

DaveQ

PS - As an opinion, the B-36 flies more realistically in FSX/P3D than MSFS where it accelerates down the runway quicker than a Ferrari....

The easiest way to learn is to download a repaint for another aircraft you have and get that working then duplicate the folder. Then go in and change the folder names to match the b36, replace the texture folder with yours and edit the cfg files.
Aircraft.cfg points to your new textures and texture.cfg points to the original textures.
Then remake the layout json and edit the manifest json and fly.

That last part is not necessarily a problem linked to MSFS, but rather a flightmodel that isn't adapted to the new sim. Just saying.

I agree. It's the flight model, not the sim. Curiously the ASI seems dodgy too. Needs recalibrating IMHO. Still great fun though and looks impressive.

Can we persuade Phil to do the same to the Thunderchief....! Just sayin'😁!
