Virtavia F-105 Thunderchief

Hello All,

With Virtavia's 50% sale runnig now, I am looking to add to my virtual hangar.

Any impressions of their F-105 Thunderchief? I've been eye-ing this one for quite some time.

I'm hoping it allows a cold, dark start with a fairly fully functional virtual cockpit.

Graphics? Soundset?

Thanks,

For this price it is a must have:
- Very convincing FDE (not the easiest jet to fly)
- Accurate exterior model which looks even better with Dave Q's amazing repaints
- Basic but nice VC, perhaps somewhat outdated, only a few switches are clickable
- Good 2D panel with several popups for e.g. manual engine start, fuel dump/refuel
- Decent soundset

And there is no other native FSX Thud (RAZBAM started a Wild Weasel version a couple of years ago but it seems to have been shelved).

Quick question; the Alphasim Thud is for both FS9 and FSX. Do the FS9 repaints available at places like Avsim work in FSX ? Maybe a silly question, but I'd like to be sure before buying it. Thanks for any help.

Yes they will -- I painted this one for Alphasim/Virtavia and can vouch that the texture mapping was identical in both FS9 and FSX. However, you will probably get better performance by converting them from BMP to DDS format unless the repainter did so already. My post-release Thud repaints include both FS9 and FSX format textures.

Thanks for that Frank. And in that link, I see Jack Broughton's Alice's Joy. Just the repaint I hoped for - off to buy the Thud. Thanks very much indeed ! :)
