Virtavia XB-46

The XB-46 was powered by 4 Allison-built General Electric J35-A-3 axial-flow turbojets, each rated at 4000lbs static thrust. Maximum speed approx: 545 mph at 15,000 feet with 50% fuel. But I would caution that much of the information on performance of the XB-46 is conflicting due to the fact that only one aircraft was produced and there is limited published performance information. We used Steve Ginter's new XB-46 book to gather most of our specs and data. We did however discuss roll rate during the FDE build but this aircraft was pretty slick aerodynamically so it's a guesstimate as to how she handled. Also, there are no published reports from XB pilots regarding handling so it's anybody's guess. You can always turn up aileron stability in the tuning section. That will slow down the roll rate a bit.

Recommended flight settings: sliders set for full realism - Controller settings adjust to user preferences.

Regarding the TSR, I was in discussions with the original developer but it ended up being a no-go for updating to FSX standards.

Now that is something I would really be interested in getting a copy of. Any chance of that happening? Where in the world did you get it?

1. Yes you may. and 2. I have very good google.skills. ;)

This is a full write up. You will definitely be able to recreate a valid FDE. It has data as well as pilot written descriptions of each test point. CG locations in %MAC. The whole works. ;) you're welcome. Will PM you. It's high quality PDF. 44mb.

I appreciate your willingess to share and stand in awe of your ability to find on Google what I searched for but never could find. :applause: I think new glasses might be order. Anyway, thanks in advance for the help.

I will send you drop box link after work today. But i was reading through it and you should be able to develop something very close to the real thing. At leaSt 25 charts and more than that for write ups on configurations and control handling. I can tell you right off the bat yhat the fuel system was setup so that CG did not move aft it stayed centered. For this test aircraft. Standard ailerons were poor performance without the high speed ailerons assisting.

Although the tanks drain in typical FSX order I purposely left the tanks centered in the aircraft so the COG would not change as the tanks drained. I have already started updating the Steam FDE and at some point in the future will most likely post the updates here. We are now building FDE's for three different sims because aircraft behave differently in each sim.

I suppose that does put in the thrust/weight category as the B-47, and I consider it pretty sprightly at the lighter weights. A question on porting planes in regards to the TSR2. How come some work fine and some don't? I was able to find the Su-22M for FS2004 and took a chance on it and it works fine in FSX. Not so for the Lightning. I did the SOH patch for it to get my two seaters in FSX.

The 30 minute test flight...(before my wife shut me down)... :culpability:

Only had a brief time to fool around with this new bird, and I really really like it. No time to flip switches in the cockpit; that will have to wait for the weekend.

If you were a fan of AlphaSim's odd-ball aircraft collection, this one will not disappoint. The texture and detailing in the VC is really nicely done, as are the exterior textures. The screen shots don't do the exterior textures justice; as you really have to view the metal skin in the dynamic lighting in the flightsim itself. Even the co-pilot's station is really nicely done. I had enough time for a few touch and go's, and there was no drama there.......just the way I like it. With my current out-of-date computer hardware, I typically have to hatch out the engine smoke entries in the aircraft.cfg file to avoid micro stutters on the ground. This aircraft was no exception. Time to update my computer hardware...:sorrow:

Many more interesting and unique aircraft on the way.

Mal....which ones? I can see if I have anything you might find useful for development if you're looking for info that seems unavailable alternatively. PM me if so inclined. No expectations here.
