Virtual Weekend...

Practising what I have arranged to do in exactly 8 days from now, fly a 172 floatplane from the shores of Lake Como. I was able to find scenery for the Aeroclub and learned the direction of the water runways, the approach and circuit and the geography of the area. Hope the weather will be kind to me and I don't jinx it.

This is Bellagio (The town, not the Vegas Casino):

Could that be Cumberland Island? I hope so. I ate some great blue crabs I caught at the dock. Watched the feral horses appear thru the mists around sunset at Dungeness. Saw some raccoons steal the campers peanut butter under those imposing oaks.

For the life of me I can't figure out why my AI don't see each other here.
The A-4s and P-3s each have their own assigned parking, but, they wanna occupy the same space rather than line up at my Hold Shorts.
With all of you scenery gurus here...Ideas? ...Don

No ideas but, just to say thanks for picking up where Randy left off. :applause:
I see the overhead shot must of come from Google earth or ? Just so you know
all that area to the left (Tan colored roads) are now paved and open to public.
Maybe moot to mention if you are not including any recently completed roadways.

Just as a suggestion, those A-4's use to be spotted where you have them but since
the Marines got there own hanger built back in '91 they moved their flight line in front of
their new hanger. Rd has placed that hanger in his version. It is now run by Tulsair for GA maintenance.View attachment 92362

Then I don't think it's Hilton Head, Jekyll, or St. Simon. Looks more like where a workin' man might spend his virtual weekend. That leaves Tybee, Ossabaw, Skidaway/Wassaw, or Sapelo. If you hadn't flown the Cub w/floats, I'd say Sapelo for sure. It's got a nice little strip like your Ware Island.

Right around the corner from Sapelo Island.....Shellman Bluff. For virtual flying, you can land at Shellman Bluff and drive over to the get away. At least that's how I visualize it in my mind. Looking at Sapelo Island in Google, it appears that the sod runways are closed.:stop:

You're right! As I zoomed in on Google, I saw the X'es. Funny though, AirNav still shows it as operational as of 22Aug13. Private w/ prior permission required.

Maybe the big Xs are just there to discourage "riff/raff" from stopping by for a visit.:kilroy:
