Virtural Cockpit Zoom Settings?

tommieboy

SOH-CM-2025
Where are the settings for the INITIAL cockpit view located? I've found the camera views for the rest of the virtual cockpit views in the aircraft.cfg, but not the initial cockpit view. I'm trying to set a specific "zoom" factor to match the co-pilots virtual cockpit zoom factor.

TIA,

Tommy

In the aircraft cfg. of each aircraft:
1. this is the default Airbus_A321 ----->
[Views]
eyepoint = 53.0, -1.8, 4.3 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

2. Aircreations_582SL --------->
[Views]
eyepoint = 1.20, 0.00, -2.34

3.B737_800 -------->
[Views]
eyepoint = 48.2, -1.55, 1.9 //(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical distance from reference datum

4. etc.

5. etc.

Zoom ???? ... there is a cameras file in the main Microsoft Flight Simulator X folder and the hidden folder : Username/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX folder that contains the same cameras file...look for the "Virtual Cockpit" entry and not the "Cockpit" -----> adjust the zoom from there...maybe I got this right. :salute:

It's in the cameras.cfg in the hidden folder. Changing the one in the FSX main folder doesn't do anything.

It also varies depending on whether you have WideViewAspect = True or False

I don't see that entry at all within the cameras.cfg file

Tommy

EDIT: OK, I found it in the FSX.cfg and set it to True, and though it gave me a wider view, it still sets the virtual cockpit zoom at .67...... I can't figure out where it's getting that .67 zoom from? I'm going to set it back to False for the time being.

Changed that one; it didn't have any effect.

Hi,

I looked into this last night. I have my initial zoom set to 1.0 in my Camera.cfg (I like to simulate reality) but I began a mission and noticed that the zoom was set to .69.
I found out that a FLT file contains zoom information which overrides the Camera.cfg zoom setting.

the inital zoom setting in the vc section fo the cameras.cfg file in the ap data/MS/FSX is the one you want to change.

0.5 = 0.50 in game, 0.3 is 0.30 etc

once you've changed it to your preference press the delete (backspace) key and it'll work fine :)

The FLT file should be specific to "saved" flights right?

The problem is, when I create a "new" flight from scratch, some of the virtual cockpit views (for my Martin Mars) are messed up. I could just go back to the publisher and ask them to fix it, but I thought this was going to be an easy fix on my side. The only virtual cockpit view that I haven't been able to fix is the initial pilots view in the VC; it always want to come in at .67 zoom.

Sitz, if you look in the section that I copied and pasted above, that's what I did. There was no effect on the initial VC view for the Martin Mars.

Hi,

Rather than ask a question about your setup I'll just try to suggest this. If it applies good, if not just ignore it. It's the only thing I can think of. I haven't verified it.
If in your Settings/General window the "Show opening screen" box is not checked, FSX will start with the default flight and that zoom will be set.
If however the box is checked then you will start with the main menu displayed and the zoom setting will come from the Camera.cfg.

....If however the box is checked then you will start with the main menu displayed and the zoom setting will come from the Camera.cfg... I.

I do start at the main menu, still no joy.

I think at this time I'll forward this back to the aircraft publisher and see if they can address this issue. I'm OK with all of my "saved" views; I'm just trying to help out others who may have similar issues with the VC views provided with is aircraft and don't know how to deal with it.

Regards,

Tommy
