She's got rockets, JL, and they fire off nicely. They're aim is high but it's a high winged aircraft and I can live with it......don't know if I'll ever use it.....gotta do some research on this first.

... There ARE some skins for this aircraft, I believe over at Sopwith's Paint Shop but I've yet to try those. ...

Back after a RL interlude ...I also did some RAF & RAAF skins for this baby, look around in the warbirds archive ...
 
I did put this to use in my Catalina folder, and while I didn't get Rami's problems with the blister gunners, I noticed that when I dropped my torpedoes the three gun tubes disappeared.

Another problem is that those rear gun flashes are way too low in relation with the plane. All together with Alpha_1 report that the bombs were initially sitting too low and those rear gunners legs were hanging out leads me to think that this DP was for another Catalina, not the VN. Something that is confirmed by taking a look in ACM.

Now, if you were a Zero pilot and shoot at the Catalina, half of your bullets aiming at the 3D model would make no harm. Check this rough comparation:

This .dp needs a thorough revision indeed. After all, it was just a BETA version.

It's been a while since we were discussing this, but I have finally dealt with it.

I did a new .dp for the VN_Catalina. I've taken some of Alpha_1 loadouts (hope you don't mind :salute:) and added the PBY radar pack by GavinC. Also the damage boxes have all been replaced, and a few effects added when hit.

Nice work fellas. Now, can I just slap in this new dp and put a Canadian skin on her? I have often times had a problem with this plane, the last time I messed about with it, I think I ended up with fps problems. :salute::ernae:

There is a Canadian skin at the paint shop, I believe. If not, I do have one and can send it to ya.
 
Thanks Alpha, I think I have a couple. I very rarely fly it, but it would be great to use it in missions.

The fact that you had the bawls to do this was inspiring to us with little skills. Jeez, maybe I can learn something after all!:salute::ernae:
 
I know it's an Indian Ocean skin, but it's here at SOH...

... any ideas of an Aleutians skin? It looks vaguely 1941- early 42 ish ...

(I'm sure Hewman100 will be along any time now to point me in the right direction ...)

Hee, hee, between renovations and still trying to get psp to draw out the panel lines for me, well, it may be awhile yet! It's a struggle, but next week, I should have lots of time to drive myself nuts with psp!:salute::ernae:
 
Hi all. Just did some tinkerin' with this critter. The original .dp had the weapons hanging about 3-4 feet below the wings, so I adjusted that. They might sit a little tight now but at least they're up there.

As you can see by the attached screenies, there's another wee problem here. There are legs sticking out at the back of the aircraft. These must be the rear gunners, as you can probably figure out. Nobody manning the guns in the waist positions. This is way outta my league so I'm wondering if someone can step up and correct this. Other than that it's an attractive aircraft and a shame if it can't be fixed.

I'd be glad to share my altered .dp for this plane if anyone wants it. Right now I'm reading 'The Thousand Mile War'.......WWII in Alaska and the Aleutians and this sparked my interest. These birds played a huge roll in that part of the world back then.

Hey there... since you say you corrected the wing stores hanging off height... do you know how to change a model's appearance to be up off the tarmac... i.e: where in the acft config do you go to correct that? I am a novice at these things myself...

Hiya! I'm such a bumbling novice at this stuff that I make myself sick! I've never addressed that problem, however, there's a terrific ebook available for download by Caleb Flerk that is a definitive tutorial on .dp files.

Some guys find this .dp stuff easy (practice makes perfect, I'm sure)....I sweated bullets doing that stuff, though my confidence has shot up a bit (read new post on AH Spitfires) and I'm not afraid to open a .dp file anymore and try something.

I have vast experience with PSP... you have to work with layers... First, (if possible) a fuselage or wing in a solid color... add shading, details, markings, etc. in different layers, then in a final top layer... (pay attn!) draw the lines, one by one, (my preferred simpler method...rather than vector lines... i.e. less hassles) is to use the shapes tool... draw a good size rectangle with a 1 value in feathering... then with the same tool, this time used to chop off the doubly feathered outline into one vertical and one horizontal very fine line ... lines... then at your pleasure and convenience... copy and paste the appropriate lengths for each panel line... when you have all the lines in place... test the view adjusting the value for relative opacity (i.e: go through each individual layer properties)... when you are happy with the results... combine all layers... and store in a BMP file (actual texture) and save the PSP file in layers to use in corrections, adaptations, etc. I am enclosing a sample final result to illustrate the product you seek to achieve.View attachment 23596
