Voices not working

Earlier I started a mission and noticed that there were no voices.
I checked my settings and everything was normal, also the ATC voices don't work.

I don't use ATC or play missions often so the problem has probably been around a while, but is is bugging me and I can't figure out what is wrong.

One cause for this might be wrongly configureed windows speakers, e.g. using a setting for a 5.1 system, but using just a 2.1 one.

Thanks for the help. This is happening on my laptop so I checked the settings and somehow the default audio output got set to headphones.
