Over at the Captain Sim website you can vote for a B-707/720 variant in their upcoming FSX B-707 package. One of the options is for a KC-135. The Roc Dolonec tanker series are great, but I think it's high time for a real FSX version!


....or vote for whatever!
 
It's multiple choice, so I've gone for the KC-135 and E-8.

Shame there's no E-3D/E-3F on the poll, though. I do prefer the older E-3As, mind.
 
Eh Bone thanks for the reminder and vote done for KC-135. We in FSX need all the Gas Cans we can get.
 
While technically they look very much the same, have almost the same length etc, the KC-135 and 707 are different aircraft with different fuselage widths and a variety of differences in wing but it doesnt do them justice to call them the same - the E-3 and 707 are essentially the same aircraft type with modifications.

I believe the KC-135 was based on the 720 version.

The model that Tex rolled over the lake in Washington state is what I'm thinking of. I know they called it the dash 80, but I thought it was technically a 720. Whatever it was, that's it.
 
The 135 is based on the 717 model which has a smaller fuselage than the 707, the -80 is even smaller still. All KC and C-135s are 717-1xx models, however the RC-135 is a different model again and is in Boeing's books the 739 model.

The Dash 80 is an odd plane a derivative of the 367 which is actually the KC-97 model with swept wings and jet engines, looks much like a C-135 but is a prototype of one airframe only, production 135s kept much of the Dash 80 but used a larger fuselage (still smaller than the 707) and thus the 717 was born.

I'm sure the USAF crew experts can tell us the real differences between 135s and 707s but my understanding is that there is very little in common or transferable between airframes, whilst looking the same they are different.

Sorry for the distrait....and as usual, there's one in the back of the workshop <sigh> !.
 
That's a clean looking mesh...the Rivet Joint is pretty slick.

The original intention was just for white tops, the tanker (Shamoo colors), an addon so to speak, they'll (if I ever pull my finger all the way out) never be to Capt Sim fidelity, I prefer CTRL + E and default systems, low tech, high FPS sort of thing :). Also not interested in the older engine variants, the big turbo fans seem to make them have more poise IMHO. Its been a while since I worked on the mesh, storage seems to weed out those just built on a whim, those I go back to tend to progress better after six months in storage, IE the ones with the most appeal, the 135 and one other project are about the only part started ones these days that appeal and will progress to completetion....in say ?, 5 years LOL.
 
The 367-80 (Dash-80) was the original prototype Boeing jet transport. Used to develop the KC-135 Stratotanker and the 707.

Thats an affirmative, I believe the extra fuselage size on the 707 line was to allow standard seating to be installed, the extra 4" is at shoulder height when seated, the extra height is in the upper area, the cargo bay cross section being almost identical.
