vstudios PT17 Stearman Released Vol I (Payware)

Sounds like you have "autorudder" checked in realism settings.

Thanks, will have to check that. I never use it unless called for in the readme. I was flying the Ercoupe the other night, may have left it on. :isadizzy:

Yep, that was it. Thanks

Very nice (and envy-generating) screenshots, Noddy and Roger! : )

Hoping to pick this one up soon. I love the high visibility white/navy blue striped scheme (with remnants of the factory yellow scheme showing through around the numbers and data block)!

I hesitated to buy this Stearman package because I have had a payware PT-17 for a few years. Stupid me, I don't remember where I got it (anybody got any ideas where I bought a Stearman about 3 or 4 years ago?) Anyway, I bought the VS model because I have all of their planes and they are all outstanding. This old girl is great!! It flys so nice and easy. The plane is incredibly beautiful. The VC is simple and perfect.
Is the actual PT this easy to fly? My father-in-law (Maj L.P.Dolan USAF Ret) learned how to fly during WWII in the PT-17. He says it was a "honey" of a plane...said if you can't fly the PT-17, you'll never be a pilot. I have crashed a few times, but never thought I was a pilot.
Anyway, get this plane, you will love it.

This scheme was generally called "Recall". The recall scheme was used by the US Navy in the early forties when training aircraft had no radios, in the event of an emergency ie bad weather the recall plane went up so if the new pilots saw it they knew to return to base or any safe landing ground.

I'm really, REALLY enjoying the Stearman - two good looking models, a lot of fun to fly in either version, and some great paint schemes. Someone already mentioned there is a bit of looping in the supplied sounds. If it bugs you, you could try a freeware sound pack called strsnz.zip, which I originally got for Tim Conrad's WACO. If I was going to make one suggestion it would be to have the option of a turn coordinator on the rear (main) instrument panel, but taken all round this is great.

I've been fortunate enough to have an opportunity to fly a real N2S-3. It was an experience I shall forever cherish! Indeed it is a delightfully easy aircraft to fly, at least once in the air. As with most taildraggers, the real drama manifests itself in takeoff & landing operations....but from my understanding, experienced tailwheel pilots (ie: NOT myself :icon_lol:) generally regard the Stearman as a very benign and forgiving aircraft in these regimes, at least in comparison to other taildraggers. My only prior experience has been on Cessna 150/152/172 and Piper Cherokee 180s while training for my PPL...and I personally think that once airborne, the Stearman is an easier and more stable aircraft to fly than the above. It's definitely 1000x more fun....that's for sure!

EDIT: Here's a much more detailed and entertaining pilot report of the Stearman, for those who are interested. A good read!

Thanks for the link. Nice to read one of Budd's PIREPs again. As he says, and as the president of the EAA says, who flies one all the time, they are supposed to be a handful to land; but I don't think FSX is capable of modelling the combination of tire grabbiness on pavement and high center of gravity behind the mains on taildraggers that makes them that way. I never hear of anyone ground looping their virtual planes. I know I haven't, and I've certainly done landings in the sim that would have me dragging wing tips in RL. So VS can be forgiven for inaccurate landing characteristics.

It's nice to have a good Stearman for FSX. The only thing that made me even look twice (but no more than twice) at Flight was that big beautiful yellow bird on the screenshots. This one is on my wish list. It would be nice to see some more videos of it, with sound this time.

I'm hoping we'll see some more repaints. I'd especially like to see an all grey one like the one in Flight.

I was about to do that repaint but just cannot get the layers in the paintkit to work as they should in my photoshop Elements which is odd considering i have no probs with other paintkits.

Paintkit uses layer masks, which are not supported by older Elements versions, IIRC.

I wouldn't mind slapping a few layers of paint to this bird. The only problem is, that it's still out of my reach, as the web store does not accept direct CC payment.

Oh yes, it's the dream machine. Beautiful work! This is what flying is all about.

PayPal only allows a certain number of guest payments...

I believe it is 3...

I will have to wait for another shop to sell the Stearman, as I do not want to have a PayPal account.
