I was at Cosford yesterday. What a brilliant day! Perfect airshow weather. The big crowd pleaser, the Vulcan, was the penultimate act, turning up just before 5.30. To say there was a sense of excitement in the air is an understatement. Unfortunately for the Jet Provost display, which was on at the time, quite a lot of eyes left their act when the distinctive shape of XH 558 was spotted making it's approach to the airfield. When it eventually began making it's flybys there truly was a sense of awe and wonder from the spectators, quite a large proportion of whom I image had never seen a Vulcan fly. Don't forget that up until last year, the last appearence of a Vulcan at an airshow was way back in 1992.
I quite easily believed it when it was announced that the aircrafts appearence at a show could increase the average attendance by up to 20%. I especially believed it when the organisers began turning people away from the gate by late morning, due to the show being filled to capacity. I'd highly recommend that people, in the UK, check out the Vulcans schedule for this year and try to attend one of it's appearences.
The show concluded with a display by the Aerostars (6x Yak-50's). This was the first time I had seem them and I was really impressesed with their act. They are apparently the largest civilian formation aerobatic team in the world.
