Wake Effect for Floats

I'd like to be able to put wake effect on the outboard floats. I fear that I won't be able to because the floats are NOT recognized contact points (at least I don't think they are) and they effect won't be allowed to show up.

Also, obviously I know how to add the effect as shown, but not sure how to do this for floats.

I'd also like to be able to do twin pontoon wake effects on things like the E-13A-1_JAKE, for example, rather than have the effect just show up between the pontoons.

You guys have a solution?

Thanks, Bill:kilroy:

Ogilvie"s Files

Hi Bill, Ogilvie helped me out on the OS2U-3. He had a file attached to a thread for it. It's gone now, but I'm thinking it would ok to re-attach it here.

The wakes for the outboard floats are in the .fx file he posted. There are some X,Y, and Z coords in this file that need to be changed for the positioning on other aircraft. I'm not sure which ones to edit...tried it once and got a migraine. :blind: It would take some trial and error.

DV!

THANKS LOADS! I just got done putting this into the Kingfisher ... adjusted the position without trouble and now it works just fine.

What I'd like to do now is get inside and see i f I can add a little more spray ... more like that in my screen shot. Now THAT should be a MAJOR PAIN IN THE BUTT ... I've been inside FX files before and talk about getting cross-eyed as well as sideways at the same time ... Anyway ... this is great and would be a good start to taking care of the problem of "correct" wake effects for other multi-float aircraft.

Just to show you that you can ... GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM YOUR FRIENDS!

DV (and Ogilvie) ... here's my OS2U-3 with her wake effect in full bloom! The fx file from you, DV, was a great tutorial ... it gave me the formatting and pretty much the "Y" and "Z" coordinates I needed on the port and stbd floats ... had to fudge them a little ... but that's what's fun about this sim.

In any case ... I'm happy with the results and want to adapt "my new fx" to my other floatplanes ... just made a WHOLE LOTTA' MORE WORK FOR MYSELF ... DIDN'T I?

Thanks, Bill:applause:

Bill, congrats on your success with the wake effects. :) They can be a real challenge, both in CFS2 and FS9. I had a heck of a time adjusting the contact points on Kazunori Ito's P-5 Marlin (in FS9) to get the wakes working properly, not to mention tweaking more numbers so I could land the thing routinely without registering a crash.

Good looking job there Bill. If'n you get something for the Japanese planes worked out, do you plan on making an upload of them?

Thanks for the heads up, Miami ... and Jagd, I can't do much ... but it's really nice when it does all come together.
DV ... right now I'm working on my JF-2 Duck (clawson.morrissey). What I ultimately want to do is get ALL my floatplanes and flyingboats tricked out as best I can. Then, create a download package that will have the specific aircraft renamed wake effect, panel data, aircraft cfg data, and gauge.

Nice...That's something to look forward to then. I remember in the past, many of he float/wake effects were attachments to posted threads. Talos made a few. In time they disappear.
A dedicated down load of these would be great so that the wheel would not have to be reinvented, as the saying goes. I try to save as much as possible, but there is always something that falls through the cracks.
I'm not implying a rush order on these. Nothing like that...it's a hobby, you know. I only would like to say whatever you come up with is appreciated. :ernae:

DV ... I gotta' laught ... about the "no rush order "thing. I just got hooked on this ... and I'm most often in your position ... on the waiting end. That siad, I'm almost done with the J2F-2_Duck (need something in 1942 colors).

I promise that once this babe is in the hanger, I will be doing the Japanese next. I will redo the all flying boats later ... so right now I will be concentrating on floatplanes.

I'm retired and semi-disabled, so I have a good bit of time to devote to this project ... and (so far anyway), it's been a lot of fun. The dedication factor is high ... even with nice weather on the way ... there's still more than enough time each day that I can play without getting in trouble with the boss.:salute:

Gratulieren!

YEAH!

Thank you very much, Bill! :jump:

Seaplane wake effects always gave me headaches for the big amount of variables involved. Screw one figure and the whole effect goes beserk. From then on, one starts wondering whether the error was in the effect or in the aircraft.cfg and it's easy getting into an error loop that never ends.

"With a Little Help From My Friends" still sounds great! :wiggle:

Cheers!
