Wake Island.....for FSX?

What I really need to know now is how to flatten and lower the entire island so that it's all one elevation without high and low spots.

Mark if you have any experience with that please let me know.

Changing the runways from concrete to coral is easy and so is deleting modern objects and adding period objects. We just have to get the island flattened and lowered.

Hi,

I would need to have a close look at it, but I think blending the airfield into the mesh does not require to flatten the whole island. You just need to blend the perimeter of the flattened airfield to the elevations. Tom does a real good job at Iwo Jima right now just doing that, and it's a bit more complicated there. In ADE, as Tako mentioned, this is fairly easy to do, and if you try it, remember that you can assign elevations to vertex points.
I'd like to lend a helping hand here, but I want to finish my Solomon libraries first so I can release it, and they could be used for Iwo Jima and Wake (and others...). I carefully estimate that I won't have time for it until the end of January, since I'm 5 weeks in Southeast Asia soon.
Is someone here who has experience in redrawing photoreal scenery? Would be nice if we could use the photoreal texture as background, but I don't have experience with this as of yet.

Cheers,
Mark

Oh, the fun hours I've had on Wake...shooting down Wildcats with Zeros...bombing or strafing the airfield...running a destroyer aground to use it as a gun platform...shoveling the OPFOR...

Wait...wrong game.

yeah, I wish we had some of that in this game.

I think I'm going to attempt to create the photo real background of the island myself. There are a couple of programs that supposedly can help to do that easily...we'll see.

If I can make a photo real terrain bmp of the island, it will not be hard to create the coral runways and gun emplacements and hangers etc.

Just a word of caution....be careful where you get the photo-real imagery from. If it's a satellite image it will be covered by copyright and while it might be OK for your own use you most certainly cannot upload a scenery package to share with others that contains images covered by a copyright unless you have express permission to do so from the copyright owner.

Falcon (Ed) was a making a bunch of photo-real sceneries about a year ago but had to pull them all because of the copyright issue on the satellite images he used.

I've spoken with John Stinstrom, who has been gracious enough to allow me use of his scenry as a basis for a re-work of Wake-1941. It remains to be seen if I can figure out how to flatten the basic photo or mesh or whatever it is in order to proceed with placement of period correct objects. He has also given me permission to use his WWII vehicle library and static aircraft from another package. So if I can get the elevations of the island flattened I can proceed with object placement.

Any help on the elevation issues will be appreciated.
