Want a Mustang? Canadian style?

Thank you for your kind words, Duckie! :jump:
I appreciate them very much!

May I introduce to you?
The Edmonton Special:

It will become 442 "Caribou" Sq's Y2*B, KH680, Pilot Officer John Mallandaine, based at RAF Hunsdon, Hertfordshire, March-May 1945.

The historical pics from the source mentioned above show some interesting details:
Those Mustangs carried the "Type C" roundel on the upper wings, not "Type B", as it should be and still is on my screenie.
They also had a louvered panel at the lower front of the cowling (underneath the exhaust stacks), not the perforated one. Let's see if I can depict it. Maybe I should borrow it from the AFG KingAir...

If I only could persuade the pilot figure to lean his arm on the canopy rail in this pretty cool manner... :icon_lol:

More to follow!

Cheers,
Markus.

Phew!

There's a small "zone of distorsion" in front of the wing root where the bottom's Sea Grey meets the Dark Green that kept me busy the last three hours... :isadizzy:

I somehow envy those guys of the "bare metal repaint fraction" :wavey: !

May I introduce to you?
The Edmonton Special:

Good stuff there WB. As coincidence would have it I received a heads up e-mail from Airshow Buzz with a clip of the 4 Horseman in their P-51s. In documentary style, it is a behind the scenes look at their practices and insights as warbird pilots into aerobatic formation flying.

Several flyings shots of the City Of Winnipeg Sqdn as well. Good video if you haven't aleady seen it. About 10 minutes.

Heres the LINK http://www.asb.tv/videos/view.php?v=r878a9qq&a=feature?utm_source=MDMEmail&utm_medium=email_asb&utm_term=Seen&utm_content=FailTo&utm_campaign=ComeBack

Thanks for the link, Duckie!
Must be a great video, but I all get is a stuttering slide show of about 0,5 fps. Too bad...

@ Wing_Z:
Nice proposal, but it's the wrong operator! :icon_lol:
"Stars and bars" are not my part of the pool - well ... until further notice at least! :d

Man - this repaint is bigger than I thought!
Twelve hours of pushing pixels, and all I got is this:

y2b_3.jpg

Quite astonishing:
This awesome paint kit seems to make things easy (and it certainly does in bare metal), but when it comes down to adjust camo chips, it's quite a different story...
It sometimes made me go :banghead:

But it's the small improvements that kept me hanging on, just like the exhaust bank I created:

y2b_4.jpg

And still so much left to do...

Cheers,
Markus.

Wing_Z, I did that one a while back, and it can be found here:

Markus, these repaints look great! I am a big fan of the RAF and RCAF schemes applied to the Mustang. The WOP model definitely has its share of mapping anomalies, which is very easy to run into when trying camo texturing - I need to coax you into FSX, so that you can help paint the new D model I am working on for that sim - already tested with camo and what-have-you. ;)

Thanks, John!
This really means a lot to me!

And I can't overemphasize the fact that all this simply couldn't be done without your amazing paint kit! :applause:

It's just stimulating...

Gratefully,
Markus.

Edit:
Me joining the dark side of the force?
That's quite tempting...

No problem here, mate!
Had a little intermission on this paint job too (for obvious reasons...).

Back to the Mustang:

They also had a louvered panel at the lower front of the cowling (underneath the exhaust stacks), not the perforated one. Let's see if I can depict it.

I finally found a good source for this detail (borrowed from a pic of a tweaked Porsche 356):

Think this will do...

Additionally, I allowed to set the inner wheel well cover to interior green - think it fits better to the coloures under surfaces.

Cheers,
Markus.

Just fiddled some more on this "louvered panel" and added some shadows:

kh680_3.jpg

What do you think?
Did I exaggerate it?
Don't want to get those venetians dominating the whole nose...

Edit:
Found out where the inner air intake textures are mapped. They are darker now - as they should.

Cheers,
Markus.

Hey Markus, I think you were on to something in your first example. I like the subtlety of blending the darker "Low Part" into the lighter high-lites along the raised edges. In the inset photo the louveres would seem to almost not be visible were it not for the vent holes still visible below the louvered edges.

Great job. This is a really good looking scheme for htis bird.

Have fun!

Flightsim screwed my upload once again. They put it into the FSX section, although I explicitly declared it as FS2004 repaint.

Now I can wait for various emails from FSX hogs trying to get it working... :banghead:
