Glad to see this project coming together, can't wait to give Sleepytime Gal a spin, nothing finer than a bare metal P-51.

Very nice and glad to see it is progressing nicely, but the spinning prop in the FSX screen shots looks a bit strange compared to the look it has in the FS9 shots.

For those interested, here are some detail shots of the FSX materials at work...

It has been quite an effort to get this far.

Well lookit there... Ina the Macon Belle... I copied that one once onto the RealAir SF260

(please forgive the brief poach - that is a wonderful paintscheme to copy.)

Looks like it has paid off, the textures are very realistic, the polished metal skin is the best I have seen in FS.

Looking forward to this release, can't wait to fly this.

These look stunning Bomber, I have been finding it hard having to hold out for your FSX Mustangs but the wait looks worth it. Great work.

I like the third shot! very realistic bare metal with real depth in the different panels.

kind regarsd,

I like it too, but Bomber, I thought the wings were painted instead of bare metal? Or is this for the Ina restoration?

Thank you everyone! It was definitely quite a process getting accustom to developing in FSX, but I have really taken a liking to the results that it has to offer.

Jankees, it is a representation of Kermit Week's restored P-51C, of course polished beyond what any Mustang looked like during WWII...but looking like a couple of million bucks, perhaps make that three million bucks in today's market. :) The wings on both his P-51C and D are left in natural aluminum, polished to the same state as the rest of the aircraft. I suspect the only reason for this is looks, as everything else on the aircraft is extremely stock. During WWII, the wings and horizontal tail surfaces, were filled, sanded, and painted as best as possible, to try and create laminar flow, though it is unlikely that laminar flow was ever accomplished on any factory Mustang - a simple scratch on the wing will disturb laminar flow.

Removing the static DC-3 with its nose down using an alpha channel, the default Fantasy of Flight airfield, "Wolrd's Greatest Aircraft Collection", is a great, and of course proper, place to launch from in Ina, and perhaps do a low level display as well.

nice looking mustangs if your team ever needs any help i am happy to give a hand to paint some p51s for you guys :typing:
