Warthog!

Will it be done accurately or with artistic license ?

as accurate as my HD Masters allow :salute: got a nice list of fictional operators to get through... countries like Saudi Arabia, Israel... UK as well... going to be tough going but i'll get it done... just affixed a Hawgmeet 2010 sticker to the ladder door on the snow one :icon_lol:

Back in the 70's I was commuting between Shreveport and the small town we were living in and the drive took me past Barksdale AFB. Every afternoon, you could see the 917th TFW practicing their gun runs over Barksdale. Those A-10s would dive, pop-up, and roll off of the target.....like watching a ballet with depleted uranium shells!!:icon_lol:

Made the trip home a bit more enjoyable!

USAF Eielson AFB, just about 20 miles east of Fairbanks had A-10 aircraft for years but now all have gone to other bases. There may be some paints of these aircraft in winter.

THEY MOVED THEM?!

I was stationed there up to the end of 2005. I worked on the ECM on those hogs. David, I believe at my request, included an early Eielson paint scheme.

While I was stationed there, during several Cope Thunder exercises, I never once saw any A-10 painted in winter camo. They were always the typical USAF gray. These camo jobs happened before, and after my stint at the base. Same with the F-16s that were stationed there. They painted up the D in nice camo right after I left. Crying shame. Never once saw any bird in those beautiful colors.

Of note, that famous picture of the moose on the flight line at Eielson AFB was taken while I was there.

An interesting story about the A-10s... They were flying in after a long stint overseas doing combat and I had volunteered to work as security while some of our SPs were in the sandbox. While they were flying in, we had a car come out of nowhere into our zone. After flipping on the wailers, stopping the vehicle with guns pointed, it only then became apparent we had just stopped and drawn our weapons at our base commander (who had never told anyone he was there to welcome the boys back to base).

Thankfully he was completely cool with what happened. Even had a chuckle about it. I think he learned his lesson though, as we had no further security breaches from a base commander that I was aware of after that.

I think the last A-10 Hawg left Eielson AFB in summer 2007. Must google for more info.

http://www.eielson.af.mil/photos/mediagallery.asp?galleryID=2381 start of A-10 photos

EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Lt. Col. Quentin Rideout, 355th Fighter Squadron Commander prepares to step down from his A-10 Thunderbolt in the hawg pens on July 31. The first two A-10's arrived at Eielson on December 18, 1981, while the last two A-10's are set to leave on August 15, 2007 to Moody AFB, Ga., and Mountain Home AFB, Idaho...........

i appologise for not having been following this thread,,and i dont have the time today to search back,,,but is there a place to get all these paints for the A10?

mine are IRIS 'sanctioned', all 32-bit HD textures... just a side project of mine before next project gets on the paintshop floor... aiming to get all 14 out by mid/end of January. theres enough paints already but i'm doing them as a texture pack, same options as the A-10 main, low-very high res textures to suit PC speed....

Very good show Rob :salute: It's nice to see some rather more accurate schemes being done. Are you planning to put on the original hog faces, the ones with a tan nose and much longer fangs ?

This was off course back in the 80s and a few aircraft had the markings painted on. Rescue markings and ejection seat triangles were different as well. Some white being used.
Thanks

Happy new year

Thanks everyone!

Captdoug,

It will be ready for download in a day or two, just got to double check everything and make sure everything is right. I will let you know when it's ready:salute:

Hi Rob,

Did the Warthog repaint get uploaded and I missed it or is it not ready yet?

Thanks, Captdoug

Captdoug,

No you haven't missed them. I should have known better than to set a time frame during the holidays, lol. They just need another look over, then I need to create the thumbnail images, and read me file. If all goes well, hopefully tomorrow night, if not Sunday for sure!:salute:
