Warwick carter's north american at-6 texan for fs9 ?

vonernsk

SOH-CM-2022
Been lusting after some of the re-paints for Warwick's AT-6 Texan in FSX. Has anyone done a backward conversion of Warwick's excellent Texan for FS9?

Ah yes indeed. I suppose these were temporary links to my search results....
Let me a few minutes to find the exact file names.

Ah, faster than expected :)
The main archive, containing the plane and a few repaints, is named T6TEXRCR.ZIP.
The archive containing the repaints from John Terell is named clasict6.zip.
You should be able to search for the files on flightsim.com using these filenames :)
(search the repaint by John first, its description contains the link to the main archive)

EDIT: found a trick:
The main archive: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=search&fsec=0&fname=T6TEXRCR.ZIP
The repaint by John: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=search&fsec=0&fname=clasict6.zip

EDIT2: you have to be logged on flightsim.com in order to download.

Warwick's Texans with Bomber's skins.

Thanks a lot Daube!

Your assistance greatly appreciated. Have no idea how you managed to extract these from the fltsim archives. I tried every which way and combination of words to access them - without success. Google it is not!

If I remember correctly, I went to the search section, restricted the categories to "FS2004 warbirds".... or just "FS2004" I'm not sure anymore... then, for search terms, I wrote "Warwick Carter". A lot of results came back, but the repaint by John Terell was one of the first ones, and the description contained a direct link to the plane itself, which was useful :)

Did the links above work, in the end ? Have you been able download the plane ?

Actually, the model for FS 2400 is quite acceptable.... However... the mapping is
somewhat of a puzzle...

Just got done doing a tweaking of the finish on the legendary Garry Smith opus on
Warwick's old AT-6... and found 3 mapping problems... if they can be resolved it can render a nice overall finish...

1. need to find out where the starboard landing gear strut door is located on which texture... (it appears transparent with the overall shiny gamma so it needs masking)
2. ditto for the exhaust pipe... cannot put a finish on it cause it is not marked on a texture...
3. also, the mg fairings astern the engine cowling... [got the one for the air intake abaft the cowling]

I think I got a pretty convincing bare metal finish... (need to refine it yet, of course) but no sense working on it if the above issues cannot be resolved...
Thanks anyone if you can offer an answer to the above...
In the end... it still does not compare to the fantastic FSX version...

Daube,

Yes, thanks for the assistance downloaded both files OK.

Having had a good look at this a/c, I have to agree with 'Gaucho_59'. It does not cut the mustard as a top rate FS9 model. Looking at the clips from the FSX site, all of the improvements have gone into the FSX model which looks great.

I have got the Virtavia Texan/Harvard package and that is a very sound model of this charismatic old trainer.

Well, of course Warwick's FS9 texan is not on the same level of quality than his FSX version. It's quite logical, because:
- the FS9 version is quite old now
- the FSX version is considered as one of the very best freeware models available today
However, with some good repaints, I'm pretty sure the FS9 version can still please the eye :)

And talking about eye candy, while searching for Warwick's Texan on flightsim.com, I noticed that there were some photorealistic repaints (well, I saw one, but there might be others, right?) for the Alphasim Texan. Personnaly, I love photoreal repaints. Since you mentioned the Alphasim Texan, you might want to perform a search on flightsim.com (or even in the SOH library, maybe?) for these photoreal repaints. You'll find some excellent material for screenshot artists ;)

What we need are some high-quality repaints for the SkyUnlimited Texan - that is a beautiful model inside and out, but sadly the textures that shipped with it are poor at best.
I'd definitely prefer the SU Texan, though, with a few enhancements. It's got an excellent FM and 3d model with great gauges and loads of eye-candyish features and dedicated models for various variants. I use it with a few panel mods and the Alphasim Texan soundpack - it'd be perfect if we had the quantity and quality of textures for it that we have for the Alphasim model. It is an under-rated beauty IMO.

Ito's AT-6 is another real possibility...

Here is what I did with Ito's AT-6... I think his model offers myriad possibilities for repainters...
I am in the process of perfecting my work on it... to make it even a little more credible in terms of natural metal finish... will play around with the gamma and see what I come up with
