wasted ammo

they all just need guns like the six-shooters the old cowboy shows used...
never run out of ammo, and turn around and fire one shot and 10 bad guys fall off their horses....:faint:

i'm thinking of destry rides again with jimmy stewart. he did pretty well for a while with no guns at all.

***on an unrelated note, didn't marlene dietrich play the same charachter also when she starred in john wayne's "the spoilers"?
and i am guessing that is who madeline kahn parodied in "blazing saddles"

I can't not say something about two things that have always bugged me about westerns
(and is applicable to cavalry et al) --

horses running for hours on end at full speed.

riders dropping like flies in a hail of bullets (and frags) while their horses (unscathed) continue to run . . . .

I saw some Gene Autry films the other night. GAAWD I don't remember him being that bad. He was terrible!

you want to see bad? catch some replays of the Lone Ranger...
could have sworn they were good shows, when i was a kid...:faint:

The movie Commando comes to my mind....Arnold faces hundreds of bad guys with an M60 firing from the hip, they've got AK-47s. He's shirtless, standing in the open and the bad guys are running through ammo like cr*p through a goose! Nary a blade of grass around Arnold is disturbed !

Definitely don't want to be his sidekick.....life expectancy measured in mere minutes !:pop4:

How many purple hearts did Sgt. Sanders have?

I kept score one season way back in the 60s and his squad wiped out the equvalent of half a panzergrenadier bn and Saunders got about 6 Purple Hearts.

On your first post, there was a big ratio to ammo expended and casualties inflicted but at those ranges? Ray Charles would have gotten more hits
