Also, where did you put the new files? That too is important.
 
Well in DDs case its in the dog, but yeah we need details.

Did you remember to copy the textures either to or from the main texture folder? I forget which way it goes.

I've had this problem for a while, the scenario is the USMC SBD5 out of Guadacanal Bomber Squad 002. The water around the Guad is OK, then warped to other location and get a layer of noise shown in the pictures that makes it difficult to work the mission. The video driver is up to date, for Nvidia 9800gt on a 2.8 gig quad core (all cores working) rig (using windoz 7). I believe the problem is in the scenedb link to Vila area and some chunk of scenery or texture is screwed up. I have been at computers since the home computer era. I believe the problem is in the *.bgl file(s) but is beyond my skill-set. Also note I reloaded the scenedb to the original setup, and got back the beach lines. So far, it's beyond me. Answer to BH23, you could be right, I will try that. cheers Y'all
 
If it was a BGL error it would have been found years ago. I looked in the area from Vila to Munda and see nothing wrong on my Win7.
 
Just based on the screenies, my guess is its shorelines or airbase background bitmaps.

If airbase backgrounds for Maskriders airfields aren't in DXT3 format, they show up as black.

If the contents of the CFS2/TEXTURE & CFS2/SCENERY/WORLD/TEXTURE folders don't match, you get blue/green/tan/grey squares for any add-on (G2K produced) scenery.

If the format of any scenery bitmap is wrong (but exists in the correct place), it will show black.

Is this a stock install with MR Solomons scenery installed? (for the SBD campaign), or have there been other changes?
 
My 2 cents worth , ck vidio card settings , to see if DXT is enabled the x thingeh in the box !
going back to my hole now ,


Ps , I,d sell it to the Arab,s the saudies are running shy on quality crude !

:p87: ran sbd5 reconnaissance mission with I-56 IJN sub fight, got the noise (which vibrates on live screen not shown in screenies) . Checked INFO selection at end of episode, the screen showed the route and conflicts with A GREAT BIG BLOCK OF BLACK in the route flown,
So I think I got the BLACK SPOT syndrome like some I had in the North African scenarios. Checked all the color squares in TEXTURE (and world) and can't find anything fouled.

Hooraw, I think you've already identified some of the potential conflicts from your comments above.

Running a mission on Lae, where there is no add-on scenery won't tell you whether you have trouble with add-on scenery bitmaps not matching? You would need to run a mission where there is add-on scenery installed.

You mention you have issues with MRs Solomons scenery, & reverted to a scenery cfg from a stock install to clear the conflicts out - this suggests you have had trouble following the install instructions. I notice from re-reading MRs instruction tonite that he asks you to place several scenery bgl files in the main CFS2 scenery folder.

" 3. Next, do what the name of the "Place CONTENTS in Main CFS2 SCENERY Folder" folder says to do- if asked to over-write, say yes."

From the filenames he used I would surmise these files are scenery excludes, watermasks & landmasks. If these files have not been installed, you can get weird effects. The areas are: Stirling, Ballalle & Ondonga. My hunch is this is the cause of the trouble. Are these at the location you have these black artifacts showing up?

You say you had trouble with offsets & junk on runways with MRs Solomons scenery - I would hazard that you omitted to install the gsl scenery, &/or update the runway entries. Probably what you're seeing is stock objects that MRs GSL will move/ replace & add to. MRs instructions seem very clear, its difficult to see how they could cause what you describe except by omission.

 
Uncle T is probably the best advise , Older Nivida and Ati cards , was settings , display , advanced , some where after that a page to enable card function,s , but that was Xp , and your running Windos 7 , so it may not apply :dizzy:
