• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

we would like to come back to the fold....

I liked the old way. Change is good if it's better, but I don't see where the payware subforum is better. And yes, I forget to look, too. It's just not in my scanning flow yet.

Me too, but if necessary, bring payware back to this forum.

But only sticky threads about freeware to keep the layout clean.

New payware releases will need a stickie too, so the forum will revert back to it's previous format when the decision is made.

Seems most people here either preferred it before, or are indifferent. As the expression says, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If I want to buy something, I go to the store -
if I want to be entertained and/or educated I watch TV or read a book.

Certainly, when it comes time to test my credit card, I want all the info I can get - including customer opinions. When that time comes I'll head to the Payware section and see what's been offered, updated, applauded, panned or cursed. I'll read it all and look at the developer's own website and then decide.

In the meantime, I don't want to be confronted with promos and reviews (and service calls) for products I'm not interested in buying. Interspersed among the discussions, led by teasing (and sometimes misleading) titles and often turned into spitting sessions The Ad Channel and Consumer Reports deserve their own place.

I dislike ads on TV and telemarketers who interrupt dinner. A separate forum for the commercial products lets me have a choice since we don't have a "no-call list".

Bearing in mind the stated philosophy that there won't be advertising on the Outhouse (and advertising is advertising)...

1. Keep the Payware Corner (and yes, for both FS2004 and FSX - according to all the signs, FS9 wouldn't clutter the place too much)
2. developers get to start a no-reply thread introducing new products, updates or a survey.
3. any thread that reviews, seeks help, offers kudos for payware, stays in the Payware Forum.

As for the complexities and changing shape of the forums...
it crosses my mind that if a forum is too complicated to keep track of and navigate... a flight simulator might be...???

I believe this all started with all the christmas sales' posts, that where becoming scattered all over the fsx forum. Putting these posts into one subforum helped to keep track and find them easily.
Now, it is getting scattered again, with posts of new stuff in both areas. Just my thoughts.

I put my opinion up in Ickie's thread about it in the payware forum (respectfully of course)... I mean we will abide by the rules presented.. I just am a creature of habit, and it takes some time to get used to the stuff.. Not to mention I wind up searching both forums anyway for my own interests with updates from other dev's. As some have been posting in either place. Each has their ups and downs. It did get extremely hectic over Christmas with tons of stickies at the top.

Funny things human beings. Fortunately I'm not one so I can offer this observation from my studies of the species.

People will come up with a perfectly sensible idea and most will agree that it is a good idea. But in practice the humans will revert to their old habits rather than learn a new trick.

I once saw someone on another forum ask if there was an easy way to find new releases and I almost pointed him to the Simouthouse stickies at it used to be the best way for me of finding out what was new. I never visited the new commercial developers sub forum much.

A certain other forum *cough* flightsim *cough* has a Commercial Developers Screen Shots section where developers can show off new and coming products.

Maybe a Commercial Developers Preview sub forum would be a good idea and help thin out the General Discussion forum. Developers could post previews in that forum and then when the product is actually released then commercial devs could post in the General Discussion forum.

Still see plenty of WIP announcements so honestly didn't realize that
anything had changed. After the Christmas frenzy just figured things
had quieted down.

Turning off the payware sub-forum will not do it. Now all posts made there (and quite a few are very usefull) are non-accessable to all (or at least....i cannot find them)

Please either make them available again in original way, or place posts in regular forum.:wiggle:

True, I tried to find some of the payware posts but could not find any! I need to get my payware fix ;)

I dont have the power to make those changes gentlemen.. If I could, I would.. What its gonna boil down too though is that the admins will set it up and that'll be that.. no more negotiating after that point.. Please bear with us.. we're still working it through and doing the best we can for the moment..

Where's the problem?
The posts are all in the main FSX forum, just a few pages back depending on the last posting date in a particular thread.
