Yep..Looks like it's a survey aircraft.
Over the last couple of years we've had a Basler BT-67 (turbine DC-3 conversion) flying about doing mineral surveys.

Is this our taxes at work looking for alternative energy sources using the equivalent of a forked stick? "Hey Fred, steer a little left will ya, thought I caught a signal." "Nah Timmy boy, that's just Bernies new laser signage he put up for the Burger Galaxy. I told 'em we needed to go farther from town for this box of gizmos to work." "Oh man, I thought we had something. Well now I'm hungry, so put on that TOCU thing, y'know that three million dollar think helmet doohicky and tell the tower we're comin' in for lunch."

As the guys banked for final...

....Ahhh....yes. The invisibility array. It's a research thing. It was only a matter of time before it malfunctioned and it's presence became known to the public.

Generally they keep those things out at Area 51. Albuquerque is probably a field reseach station. It works by beaming out the image of a person on the side of the road with a flat tire, thus rendering the aircraft invisible. I believe the writer Douglas Adams coined the term, "The Somebody Else's Problem" field.

Odd to think that tax dollar spending is transparent when it's working, visible only when it's broke.

Guys, sorry for all the conjecture and worry.....that was just me flying about trying to find something on TV worth watching. Didn't find anything.....so back to reading and rump scratching I go.
