Welcome to Skyhaven, MAB 03

Great platform for basing your flights of.

Two questions:
Is it meant to be incorporated as a ship AI like the aircraft carriers (i.e. a "ship" with the contact points way down)?
How long is the actual runway? (might be useful to incorparate an arrestor cable so that big irons with a "virtual hook" can land there as well).

Bonus question: are cats allowed on board?

That is gonna be a blast Tim. Just judging by the size, I don't imagine there's much that you won't be able to land on her. You could stage an entire Fly-In to her decks and still have room to spare, lol. Well Done!

The first flying fly-in. :ernae:
Can you call it landing, on something like this, or is it just considered resting, since technically, you're still flying? ;)

It looks great.

lol, lol. . .great stuff Sundog. . .pretty funny, lol.

Cats are allowed, but I'm not responsible if they get sucked thru a jet engine!
The large hangars can each house a 747, and if you are good enough, and set the fuel levels right, you can take-off and land a 747 on the MAB. 737-type tubes are a pleasure around the boat.
I'm thinking of placing 24 MAB's around the world, so one can fly around the world without touching land or water in most aircraft. And you can party!View attachment 21152

Will there be a drive-able version? I would love to see this baby drive-able because i want to be the Captain of this partyboat! I got a little Capt'n in me! and if there is a drive-able version, will you be able to land on it? Yea, i know. Dumb question but i thought i might ask.

I sure could use one around Hudson Bay or up around Alert Canada, my testing center.:salute: That'll also amke a excellent place for Sled Dogs and there mushers.

Forgive my bad eyesight (or lack of smarts) - but is this a megacarrier type of vehicle, or is it floating in air? The pictures make it look like it's a surface vessel, but the "Sky" name made me wonder ...

Curious what it looks like in the daytime!

The MAB is a giant moble air base that floats on a tech-tech-techy anti-grav field. It can slowly move (80 kts max) over land and water. But not too mountainous, since its max altitude is about 400m.
Actually making 24 BGL's may be too much, but I'll make a few custom BGL's, in terms of location.
Just post some long-lat's and headings, and have a MAB over your house(and block, and town....)

you know that is a very interesting idea, sort of brings back the 'floating airport' idea from the 30s. I always thought that Timmy or Bill would enjoy looking into the floating or sea bound airport. Skyhaven looks like a neat 'future' of that old floating airport idea.In the limitless politcally and monitarily 'free' world of FS the floating airports would be wonderful ideas for those who want to take a warbird to Hawaii or somthing. Hope you can find a way to make the location customizable via coordinates or somthing. :jump:

Cheers
TJ

ps here is a an old popular science article from the 30s on the idea :)

I made some tests with another comparable (although much smaller) aircraft, the Homeworld II carrier made by Bruce Fidzgerald.
This plane flies so slowly, like 35 knots max, but it can climb quite high.
With AI Flight planner, I could create a simple test flight plan making it fly at 7000 feet above the PNW region, and it worked like a charm. It doesn't look too good when on the ground, but it's majestic once in the air.

I hope I'll be able to achieve similar results with this upcoming carrier. In the meanwhile, I have to check if I can find a drivable BSG as well as the other carrier that Piglet made some years ago (ACV-15 or something like that).
