There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.
If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.
Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

I've always felt developers should hard code a gauge into the model so that if you click the combing or a spot just under the HUD a message states, "If you didn't get this at www.my-site.com, which was modeled by "developer", you don't have the right one and if you paid for it from elsewhere you've been ripped off." Or something like that. Just an idea. It let's them know they're using something pirated and at least gives proper attribution. I say this as a developer who had a model ripped off before it was even released (Demo copies- We think we know who did it, but there wasn't anything we could do about it).
It's interesting that in his so-called apology he get's defensive about being called a "fraud", as if he didn't deserve that kind of tongue lashing, lol. As if his being a kid let's him off the hook for ripping off someone else's hard work and claiming it's his own. Just amazing. . .just shows his lack of maturity and any real remorse for what he did. Just like anyone else who gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar. . .they're soooo sorry and sooo apologetic, but the fact is, if he hadn't been caught he would have kept right on doing what he was doing . . . .and he might anyway since he feels that being a kid is his "out".
Alrot's models have this built in. If you try to use the cockpit with another plane, a big red banner will appear in front of the cockpit windows.
The best insurance against piracy is actually making sure that your models are the worst of the worst.
The biggest "problem" is Modelconverter. Not to criticize Arno at all, because he made a great tool that even I use to analyze things or understand materials better for use in FSX. But the ability to take any model and convert it to a format that can be imported into any 3D program has opened a floodgate. There's a Russian group that has stolen a myriad of FS models and imported them in DCS/FC3 (including the VRS SuperBug) with absolutely no regard to the authors. There is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop that, which is unfortunate. The only thing one can do is to call em out if they try and sell them, and just have good material to back up your claim (and hopefully community support).

Yeah, he blocked a few of us from commenting, and removed all the pictures except the aircraft itself from his facebook. Sometime in the morning, he sent me a private message asking who he should ask permission from. I told him "it would have been me but now I'm going to say no and ask you privately, at first, to remove all pictures. Next I will ask you publicly".
I don't want to club the kid too much, as I figured based on his other facebook he really may have some issues. But this may be an opportunity to for a life lesson.
