What am I doing wrong?

As stated by others FS and whirly birds is filled with compromises and issues. In principal though you simply need to let the rotor rpm reach max before trying to fly. On some that may be 100% on others it is not. But if it drops when you increase throttle, that would really be the collective in a real helo, it will not work.
Using CTRL+F4 usually fixes that.

On twin engine birds FS sometimes has trouble getting things sorted if you try a cold start, in that case the approach of loading a fixed wing and starting it up ready to fly usually works.
But there are exceptions in those birds that have very customized FDEs and gauges.

lol, before long this will have moved onto three pages. All of them about how to get a chopper into the air and aside from myself and Wing_Z everyone has a slightly different take on how that is accomplished. I love flying choppers and rarely have a problem getting into the air. When I do I use the method Wing_Z and I posted and it never fails. . . .but is it any wonder, based on these posts, why Heli's are such a niche aircraft? lol. . . .sorry, I just found it amusing.:icon_lol:

srgalahad

I told you to stop sharing my screen shots with the general public!

I take it that is one of those modern attempts at art...I see no damage to the rotor blades, so I don't think it was a crash or a tip over.

Oh...concerning the tips posted here: The F1, Control F4, Control Shift F4 technique worked great on the Wessex. On Piglet's OH-23, I'm not sure what it was that got the bird into the air (I used the above mentioned F1 technique along with the key commands for rotor clutch, increased governor). One second the bird was sitting on the helipad, the next it was zooming sky ward so freaking fast it scared me...then it began spinning round and round. It took a bit of work to gain control of the helo so I could crash it.

This is definitely one for those guys that got SAMM to work.

Obio, your right.

Wessex Mk60. The helicopter has been placed upside down in the name of contemporary art. Residence Square, Salzburg

In my sim I have the Hughes 500D Model by Björn Büchner set as the default aircraft with the engines running.

I have this because it's easier when I muck around with scenery design, but I have no problems flying around with the H500.

The problem arises when I fly another aircraft and come back to the H500, then I can't get the power up.

The fix is to load the Hovercontrol Bell 412 ( or the Bell 212 ) and go through a proper start sequence.

That works for me.

Now to separate the Men from the Boys

None of the above works with the more realistic helicopters, like ICARO's fine offerings.
Sure it will start, but you won't have proper systems stuff, and at some point the avionics will fail.

When the AW139 appeared, I rolled my eyes but then decided to ****.
Knowing about the built-in Memory Leak problem, I made a video of the process.
After careful consideration I have decided to share it.

If starting the helo is the only thing you end up doing in the entire flightsim session, so be it...

I always park my helos that way. Not necessarily intentionally. That is why I largely stay with real airplanes, that is those where the wings and fuselage move generally at the same speed.

I have the same problem

A lot of helios don't come with any kind of manual,so I have no idea what everythings for. I still can't get my Coast Guard Daupnin off the ground, whats a mother to do?
