What an idea? (CS C-130)

Perhaps they are planning to do more, but somehow I don't see anything about it.

They were gathering thoughts and suggestions for a new C-130 at least 5 years ago on their forum. I wonder if this is the result of that development, or a re-work of their older FSX C-130. I think Halley's comet will return before they think about a VC to go with it.

Well, we now have the answer to the question, "What could possibly be more half-arsed than the Captain Sim 777?"

Bummer. I used to love their stuff.

Next time, they're gonna release a B-52 that's the same external model, cockpit, flight model, and sounds from the 747, but the texture says "B-52" on it

Posted this elsewhere but if you are a member of this community or something like Avsim, then this product is not meant for you. All there is to it.
The digital release of MSFS via Steam, Xbox, etc opened up simming to a massive new userbase who are coming from a multitude of environments that all likely lack a focus on button clicking intricate systems. This product caters to the newbie and casual market who just wants to get up and fly (perhaps on Xbox), not to most of the userbase here. With what I suspect was the loss of Captain Sim's systems/avionics developer, this is a wise decision for them, as they retain an income source from a bunch of new casual users, while expending less effort and using fewer resources.

Hopefully a different dev will create their own version that caters to what us old simmers have come to enjoy.

C-130 Captain Sim

Got this mail from Captain SIm about a C-130 Exterior. At $14.99. Unable to realize if other modules are necessary and what´s the cost...

"Greetings,Meet a brand-new, created from scratch, new generation of our C-130 products, the C-130 CAPTAIN expansion for MSFS 2020: https://captainsim.net/products/m130/Stay tuned,
Captain Sim News"

maybe they plan to sell their models in modules - buy the exterior - then the interior - then the cockpit - then the external stores - then the cargo...presto a $200 frankenplane, some assembly required - batteries not included

From what I've seen discussed elsewhere, Captain Sim apparently no longer has anyone who can develop things like VC's, sounds, and flight models, so they're basically limited to rehashing the external models of old projects and hoping for sales from people who don't read enough of the description to see what they're actually buying.

Loved it in FSX but i aint going for a plane that can only been flown in chase-view.
Too bad about CS. I enjoyed many of their planes in the past.

Yes, that must be it...assembled hundreds of plastic kits, no more space available...

I caved and bought it knowing full well that it was just the exterior model because the Herc is my all time favorite aircraft. Knowing what I was getting into it is still a disappointment. I am trying to convert the TSS Herc soundset to work with it. Shame that Captain Sim used to be known for really good products in FS9 FSX days and that seems to no longer be the case.

Tankerguy, is there any cockpit view at all? (IE: Low-res exterior cockpit used if you're inside?) Or do you just get the "no plane model" HUD and no option to sit inside at all?

There isnt a cockpit view. When you switch to cockpit view it's just like the exterior view from behind the plane. In showcase camera you can move around into the cockpit. It is super low poly low quality that it's not worth spending any time in there.

Interesting they decided to release the exterior model before the interior was ready. I would rather they do the reverse. As pilots we spend our time in the cockpit, the exterior model is just eye candy and in all honesty of little importance.

Hehe, imagine telling that to an aircraft-nerd forum.... :mixed-smiley-027: (and, btw, why did you buy it then ??...:) )

'Just eye candy' ??... My good man our precious hobby here is nothing *but* eye-candy, isn't it. Isn't that exactly why you and everybody else here bought MSFS in the first place ? How would you like it then ? A black or white screen with nothing else but numbers indicating the gauge readings ? A VC is just as much 'eye-candy' as the external model, don't you think ? I, for one, have bought all FS editions from SubLogic FSII on, just *because* of the eye candy even if it wasn't that much candy at all in the beginning. What's wrong with eye-candy, Joe ? The whole fricking game world evolves around it !

Btw, CaptainSim seems to have lost its HSI ever since MSFS came about. I think we can safely assume there's never going to be an MSFS VC for any of their former graphically superb FS9/FSX products. We might even begin to assume that, actually, CaptainSim as we knew it in the glorious FS9/FSX days doesn't exist anymore. The sad releases of their exterior only 777 and now their C-130 prove that there's something seriously wrong. A software company that releases 2 *exterior only* aircraft models for MSFS (no less !!) has totally lost its sense and their normal clientele with it.

If you want to virtually fly the C-130 in MSFS with atleast *some* cockpit to sit in i suppose you'd best do what we did in FS9/FSX, assign a VC of your choice from your MSFS aircraft hangar although i have no clue at all which one that would be. As a matter of fact i have zero clue if it is possible at all.....( i guess it must be.., CS assigned the default 777 VC to their external model)

Actually it's a very sad thing that a once highly respected FS aircraft developer (well, ahem.. i am speaking for myself..;-) has to stoop as low as this to still try and make a buck. I hope the X-Boxers are kind to them..

As a VR-only flyer I have no interest in an external-only model which is a shame as I loved the CS-130 in FSX/P3D, but as said elsewhere this isn't the Captain Sim of old, just a couple of dodgy guys with the name and some 3D-models.

There is a P3 Orion with (I think) the B350 cockpit at flightsim.to, so it must be possible....

This exterior-only C-130 is the thud at the end of Captain Sim's fall from grace, I think. However, for a swap-in cockpit, SWS/PILOTS forthcoming Dash 7 might be the most suitable, not only for the Hercules, but also KBT's P-3 series. The latter currently uses the Asobo B747 VC, which is too big a suspension of disbelief for me, but the Dash 7 VC might just do it. I hope so, as that Orion series is interesting, and very well modelled.

It was inevitable that some of the old greats would disappear with the emergence of the new sim.

And honestly, given the recent history of the CS brand, I'm actually not that sad about their obvious demise. I am more than a bit dismayed about their attitude towards their customers. Some of us customers of years.

Cheers,

Priller
