I have enlisted the aid of countless witch doctors and voodoo priestesses in an effort to breathe some life into this old project to no avail (yet)

So I pose the question to Jan and whomsoever else it may concern...might the Yellow Peril be revived someday?

Seems a shame to have the work that was done to date go to waste when I know there are many here who would love to fly it.

Count me in, I hope the N3N sees the light some day, I will have my CC ready on that day.

Cheers

Tis a real shame since there is one of these that lives at my local airport. (McCollum Airport, Kennesaw GA). The pilot gives joy rides for a fee every weekend. Dude flies over my home routinely!

There is one that comes to the local air show here - Wings over Gillespie - the feller who owned it wore a T-shirt that said "its not a Stearman" _ I guess he got tired of saying it...

I've been looking for the disc I have with pictures of it - If I find it I'll post 'em

Coincidently ( or maybe not ?...... ) i have just been asked for the source files by Snake11 for him and his collleagues to finish up the N3N model. Can't to do that without permission of Bill (Rambow, Maam-Sim boss) eventhough Maam-Sim has closed its doors. It wouldn't be right without Bill's consent, would it. So i've asked him to contact Bill about it but haven't heard back from him yet.

Of course i'd love to see the N3N finished up myself too of. Time willing i'd love to help out as well.( f.i. there's still only the wheeled version..) May take a while because Bill is enjoying his retirement with his family and making long trips with his motorhome and kayak. He's still web master of the MAAM site so can be contacted once in a while.

cheers,
jan

that sounds promising Jan , thank you for the update - much appreciated and glad to know that you are willing to wade back into it if needs be.

So what I gather here is that a few nudges in the general direction of the webmaster @ MAAM-Sim would not be out of line - ? gentle inquiries mind you....

I've contacted the Disney people WRT the use of a handful of dwarvish fellers - time to awaken this sleeping beauty

Yep, you can scare the hell out of Gary Grant for one thing.

Bill's alright with the further development of the N3N model, guys. That means anything can happen now. :encouragement:

cheers,
jan

Yes indeed, Roger. I used to believe, i suppose like anybody else, that it was a Boeing Kaydett but knowing about all ins and outs of the N3N during development of the model and later on saw the clip again i knew we were wrong. Several comments in the net acknowledge the fact that it actually is an N3N too.

cheers,
jan

That's a great photo, John ! :encouragement:

But this doesn't look like a sugar cane field..... Also looks like Mr.Grant is wearing a life preserver vest ?...... ( North by Northwest II ?.... )

Interesting picture for sure ! :)

cheers,
jan

Jan, as I recall, this was a studio shot for promotional use only (as seen below (I like the original B&W better)), which combined a static photo of the aircraft set behind some stage dressing - it's pretty easy to tell where the two came together.

Sorry for the thread drift!

I'm very excited about the potential for the N3N project to be picked up and completed. As with many I'm sure, I stooped into quite a bit of a depression when the project/MAAM-sim came to a halt, as I was greatly anticipating the fun I was going to have when your N3N was completed and released.

Interesting story, John, thanks ! Flying that low the aircraft would've probabely cast a shadow on the ground as well if the photo would've been real... Remains the mystery of what Mr.Grant is wearing there, and why... It looks like a life preserver but certainly not one i have ever seen. ( i have a collection of them ranging from WWII up to today. Gotta love eBay.. )

And yes, that's deffinately the N3N. The most signifcant difference between the N3N and the Stearman is the undercarriage which is made up of several tubes and looks a bit flimsy on the N3N while that of the Stearman looks very sturdy and rugged and has the inner works covered by a large fairing. The MAAM has them both, the difference in other aspects of both airframes is very significant as well if you see them next to eachother. The Stearman can be hired for sightseeing flights but the N3N is currently still grounded.

Now that Bill has givin his consent to finish up and release the N3N model i'll get in contact with Stu and his companions and see what they have in mind for that Yellow Peril. :teapot:

cheers,
jan
