What can be removed from CFS2 PTO install?

Hi all,

I think this has probably been discussed before, but I can't seem to find one place with clear, concise and complete instructions for this, so I'll ask again.

What files can be removed from the default CFS2 PTO install and still allow a clean ETO install to work?

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks,

Geary

Geary,

Go to CFS2 Utilities, I have two readme's that tell you how to remove
unwanted objects and install a second CFS2. If you rermove some of
the objects some of the missions may not work, but you can edit them
and add newer objects in their place.

GearyMcS,

To remove the standard runways, go to the scenedb folder and delete the "allrunways.bgl" from the scenedb\runways\scenery folder. This will eliminate the runway selection for the stock Pacific runways. In addition, you can also delete all the .bgl files in the scenebd\world\scenery folder EXCEPT north.bgl and south.bgl. This is outlined in my Rhumba ETO scenery install guide.

You can also elimitate the GSL entires from your stock ETO install by downloading this: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=9674

and renaming the "empty.gsl" to "cfs2.gsl"

Once you've taken those steps, the next is to delete CFS2 Pacific aircraft. When deleting the A6M2 Zero, however, one must be careful to check the sound.cfg files of other aircraft, because the A6M2 Zero is the default sound file for many add-on aircraft. You also have to delete the aircraft entry from the mdlnames.txt file, and the Quick Combat, or .qcb file for each individual aircraft. In mine, I replaced the Japanese entries with Axis entries, as posted in this response.

The one posted is my Early Europe Quick Combat file.

By doing this, you've cleansed the PTO from your European install.

In addition, you can remove ALL Pacific theater aircraft by deleting them from the aircraft folder and removing all references to them in the INFO folder and mdlnames. Then you delete all of the campaign and mission files and replace them with ETO missions and campaigns. You have to follow Rami's advice also, in that you have to replace any and all sound files for aircraft that are aliased to any of the original sound files in the original aircraft. Just search the sound file here on the outhouse and get all of your aircraft sound folders replaced with the good stuff.

My ETO, MTO, and ATO installs have no original CFS2 aircraft, none.

Geary;
Jaxon, and Obio, had posted some instructions on how to make a general sound folder to load aircraft sounds into and reference them to it. Works great and saves a heck of a lot of disk space. Just know the engine for each aircraft(Rami posted a list and I found a site a long time ago) and create a file and reference ALL aircraftthat use it to that file. :icon29:

Fibber,

I'm sad that thread was lost...but I'm not going to create it again.

Guys, I think we should all kick in a bit of money to Rami so that he can afford to buy some real beer. That bitter beer face of his is just sad.

He lives in Massachusetts and cannot even get a Sam Adams to savor and take away the bitter beer face! :ernae:

Maybe we should all chip in and buy him some teeth so he can stop parking his lower lip on his nose.

Nope...that face is from looking at all of the duplicates of 1% aircraft that have been uploaded. :icon_lol:
