What can cause freezing in FsX?

Roger

Senior Administrator
I get a freeze-up after an indeterminate time from 10 to 30 minutes. I've monitored temps for my cpu and gpu and neither are too high (36c for the cpu and 59c for the gpu). My FsX.cfg is a new one and very clean and I only use Nvidia Control panel. I have the mod that allows most of my 4 gig of ram to be used although I've never had the oom error message. I'm baffled...any ideas greatfully received:engel016:

I've had this problem many times. The issue for me was the 780i SLI motherboard. The bios needed to be flashed with an update.

Lack of global warming? :bump:

Sorry Roger I just had to ...

I'd say you oughtta snoop about for a bug ... sound to me like something may be redirectinig your resources for a time.

Is this something that just started happening using the same BIOS and FSX settings that you used before? Is it just FSX that freezes or the computer and you have to re-boot to get out?

If it's the computer, 9 times out of 10 lock-ups are caused by RAM problems. Bad stick perhaps. Have you run mem-test on your rig? I would also check the CPU with IBT or Prime95. Your temps sound OK, so I don't think that overheating is the problem...

My rig runs pretty smooth, but I still get an occasional computer freeze with audio loop when I'm into a long flight and over complex scenery. It usually happens when I'm into the flight for a couple of hours...

Try the mem and CPU tests and let us know how you do.

Hi Roger,

Could be the vid driver as well, maybe go back to older version !!

I'm havin issues as well, had a micro-burst roll through yesterday, cut the power, now me 9600 will not work, now I have a 9600 & 8800 paper weights, back to the 7600 old faithful, have an old 680i board, I think it might be dying, but I agree with bone check for a bios update.

Good Luck - :ernae:

i had that problem with fs9
not as yet with fsx
but what causes freezing
weather ya dont have a de icer?
ok ill shut up now

Thanks fellas...and H:wiggle:
I flashed the bios with the latest version just a month ago and the drivers are the 190.40. The baffling part is that there is usually a good reason for this like over temperature or old drivers. Apart from the freezing issue FsX is running better now than ever?....good old Fs sodding X:engel016:

YUP...Its the mobo..If you have not flashed that ASUS it needs it..just as the 790i needs it too.

A controller issue with it...

H, I'm too lazy to be a flasher...if they wan't to see it they can come to me:d

Anyway I've cured the problem by reducing the overclock on my Q6600 from 3285mHz to 3240mHz.
Edit: well not entirely grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I've been getting stutters and freezes for the last couple of days too - starting to wonder if it was caused by an XP security patch or other automatic D/L

Roger...if you would like to shoot Henry...you have my permission ...he told us he don't do quack no mo....but I guess by now you can see he still strung out on it....lol.

Don't feel bad Roger. Mine is now freezing up at startup and won't load. Done nothing to it except install the L-39, and that shouldn't cause it.

I`m getting this too, but on a total new build machine running W7 RC 64-bit, it`s driving me nuts. So what`s the common element between all the people experiencing this :ques:

I`m having trouble too with trackIR not recognising games and having to go back to earlier drivers, but they don`t seem to fully work now either where it did before, as it stops working intermittently and then comes back, perhaps this is causing the FSX freeze, I`ll try flying without it tomorrow to see if it helps.

Yep I flashed it a month ago so it should be pretty up to date.

I have had that on my very low end system before I remember now Roger.

I see you are flashed.(covers eyes) No need to see that...LOL

Test this..Reduce your settings in FSX..

If you are running your LOD at 7.5 reduce it to 6.5 too !

Just a stab in the dark....
Power supply...? I know they lose efficiency the hotter they get. Perhaps the extra juice needed to OC the GPU has overtaxed the PS...?

I once built a mostly new rig and found out the PS wasn't up to snuff with the new parts. It would boot and run fine until I taxed the system with a game. When I replaced the PS, everything was fine.

Again, just a crazy brainstorm idea.
