I think that Macs, to join the other debate, are much more affordable in the US than they are in Europe, I know for a fact that the average MacBook is 30-50% more expensive in th UK (taking into account currency conversions) than the identical system is in the US.

Yep.. Only now are prices slowly coming down in other countries. China for instance, who have wanted them badly for a long time now.



On parts affordability, man, mine are cheap cheap here in the USA. I purchased my Sodium RAM sticks for $89.00 or $49.00 dollars; all 4 Gigs worth. I purchased a standard 1TB drive also for $100.00 and had the Mac store install it for me. (installing it into the unique case of this 24inch UniBody is something I didnt want to mess up so I had them do it).

Now the Graphics card, an nVidia, is pretty expensive, running about $450.00, but aside from that, parts are pretty inexpensive.

I have to say that I tried out X Plane 8 and never adjusted to it, I also much preferred the FS9 systems and graphics to it. The plane maker was also a very good idea done badly, you'd think that you would be able to import a universal file type, say .dxf, to obtain verticies. From what I have seen XP9 is a huge advance on XP8 but for me it is just too much of a hassle to set up, not to mention my pc has problems with FS9 (15-20fps average, generally the lower end).

The main problem with the plane maker importing files from GMAX, FSDS or other systems used for Flight Simulator is that the copyrights of these formats is held tightly by Microsoft, and I don't see them giving away any advantages to an enemy.

For an export between standards, a third software (of the free kind, to keep away M$'s and their lawyer's unholy wrath) should be coded and made freely available... who offers himself voluntary for this S-ranked mission? (...sorry, with TV's programs stinking to Nirvana and keeping me puking, lately, I fear I'm overcompensating watching too much Anime...)

This I wouldn't know. Of course I can only speak for the Italian market, and believe me... it's bad.
