I think that Macs, to join the other debate, are much more affordable in the US than they are in Europe, I know for a fact that the average MacBook is 30-50% more expensive in th UK (taking into account currency conversions) than the identical system is in the US.
Yep.. Only now are prices slowly coming down in other countries. China for instance, who have wanted them badly for a long time now.
On parts affordability, man, mine are cheap cheap here in the USA. I purchased my Sodium RAM sticks for $89.00 or $49.00 dollars; all 4 Gigs worth. I purchased a standard 1TB drive also for $100.00 and had the Mac store install it for me. (installing it into the unique case of this 24inch UniBody is something I didnt want to mess up so I had them do it).
Now the Graphics card, an nVidia, is pretty expensive, running about $450.00, but aside from that, parts are pretty inexpensive.
