What do you consider are the advantages of FSX/3PD over MSF2020/4?

What do you consider are the advantages of FSX/3PD over MSF2020/4? Was just wondering what people thought.

Ability to have retro/vintage scenery and a huge range of aircraft ( a great example is the wide range of C-130's & other fire fighting aircraft)
Aircraft are tweakable, unlike MS20/24, and the ability to save flights!!!

I already have FSX and P3D with literally hundreds of aircraft and helicopters that are easy to modify and in some cases that I created myself (with other members of the team of course). I have invested in Orbx and Active Sky too so other than VC eye-candy swapping to 2020/4 would mean more cost for fewer aircraft that are almost impossible to modify and change up. I'll stick with P3D which I've had for less than 2 years so far and I still have thousands of airports I've not been to yet.

I am still using FSX for 18 straight years. Here are four major reasons:

Reason 1: FSX is doing well for me with my beautiful screenshots even though MS2020/FS2024 offer more superior screenshots and graphic features.

Reason 2. I want to switch to MS2020 or MS2024 because their screenshots are embarrassing my screenshots but I cannot switch from FSX to those two new flight sim platforms because the 2 flight sims do NOT have ALL freeware and payware planes that FSX has especially historic airline jets such as Tridents or BAC-111s or DC-10s or so on.

Reason 3: MS2020 or MS2024 requires more computing power and the prices of laptops are too high for me. I want to wait until the prices go down and become reasonable. I do not want to spend four thousand bucks on a new laptop. I am keeping eye on price market for the laptop with specific configuration: 64 GB ram, 5 TB SSD drive, 16 GB dedicated video ram, and 16 or 18 inch screen with no less than 240HZ.

Reason 4: Do not have patience or time to handle deep or difficult learning curves in MS2020/MS2024.

Regards,

Aharon

I still use FSX and P3D_V4 mainly because most of the addons ( payware and freeware , and they are tons of stuff ) are compatible with both platforms.
The new Micro$oft platforms don't have a so wide and almost complete range of aircraft like P3D/FSX furthermore you need a quite
strong hardware to run M$2020/2024.

Simplicity of building decent scenery using ADE ! Have never mastered 2020 - though did cobble together a passable West Raynham a long time ago !
Have populated the WAP and EAP with loads of strips used by Aden Airways in FSX - can't imagine replicating in 2020 !

I'm still hanging onto FSX because of all the add on aircraft and scenery available for FSX. Also, plenty of AI traffic through Ultimate Traffic 2, real time weather through Active Sky 2016, and Airport Design Editor makes modifying and updating airports pretty easy.

As I don't have MSFS2020 or 2024, it is difficult to compare them, but I get the impression that the amount of freeware available for FSX/P3D seriously outweighs that for the newer MSFS platforms and that is a great bonus for anyone with a tight budget. In addition some FSX payware products have now permanently decreased in price (a great example of this are the excellent UKXtreme airport series from UK2000) and others are frequently found in sales.

As for myself, I have stuck with FSX because of the amount of time and money I have invested in getting it to where it is today on my system and I am very happy with it. Sure I can see that the graphics seem a bit better on MSFS just from looking at screenshots but with the right software they can be pretty impressive on FSX too. The combination of Active Sky 2016/Active Sky Cloud Art and either the Orbx Global/Open LC scenery or the Flight1 Ultimate Terrain / Ground Environment scenery boosts FSX up to a different level. Add to this some of the great addon aircraft available and you can have a pretty realistic and very immersive experience with the older platforms.

A lot of former payware aircraft are now freeware too. Almost the entire lines from Alphasim/Virtavia, MilViz, Aeroplane Heaven and Iris can be found 'officially' online and several other developers (e.g. Virtualcol) made former payware aircraft available as freeware during the Covid crisis. We even host the entire FSX/P3D former payware output from Golden Age Simulations (GAS) here in the SOH library.

There are lots of great freeware items available now for FSX/P3D and I have most of them.

I agree with all of the above!! I've spent most of the last 8 years since P3D v4.4 was released updating models to PBR and generally remaking loads of aircraft to my own tastes. Just finished updating the Iris F-5A a few of us remade for FSX about 10 years ago, and currently doing the same for our FSX version of the Alphasim SAAB Viggen. No hope of anything close to that level of fun in MSFS 2020 and beyond; they're just for sight-seeing.

PS - And why oh why did they have to completely remake the user interface?? AAAGGGHHH!!!

I wouldn't be without the surprise crashes to desktop due to running out of VRAM. I live on the edge.....

OOMs and ground shimmering were two of the major reasons I switched to P3D v4.5 and I would never go back to FSX now.

The common language of this site is English, even for the French.

The number one is fixed ai traffic on an actual flight plan, using the same laws of physics as you. While streamed real time traffic can be cool when it works, fsx with actual traffic, not just traffic calls when they want to. Out of the box, no need for sayintentions, and beyondATC if they'd just simplify it, like say spawn a flight plan once one is filed in real time, and then have it does its thing based on a profile, vs real time tracking.
