"What if" F-16C Block 50N

Hi,

During the late 1990's the Lockheed Martin F-16C Block 50N was the front runner in the competition to replace the ageing F-5A/B and supplement the F-16 MLU of the RNoAF. In the end the Norwegian government opted to not buy a replacement for the F-5.

So this is my repaint of Dag’s standard MLU textures to show how a Norwegian Block 50N could have looked like..

Eeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwwwhhhhhh..... Just kidding, never thought of that Jens-Ole, cool shots. 911..... hmmmmm :applause:

LOL Dag :) The CFTs really changes the look of the aircraft. Had to find a new place for the roundel too... The Greek CFT F-16C - Block 50 makes a great stand in for what might have been with both the IRIS-T and Pantera pod.

Ooops, not PANTERA anymore.... they all go by the name of AN/AAQ-33 Sniper these days, both the Sniper XR and former PANTERA. It was hard for the Norwegian project officer on the original Pantera-programme to admit this :kilroy:
And you have painted a "Block 52N" since it has the Pratt engine :-D

Good point regarding the engine and Block 52 designation...lol I guess Lockheed Martin just called it Block 50N even if the P&W engine was the most likely powerplant if the order had gone ahead.

As for the name of the pod, L-M still mention it as Pantera on their own pages (maybe some lag in changing it). And here at Ørland AB and 338 sqn I doubt many know another name than Pantera.

deimos256; The Sniper/Pantera is an advanced long-range precision targeting system pod. It provides positive identification, automatic tracking, and laser designation of tactical size targets via real-time imagery presented on cockpit displays. It offers a 3-5 times increase in detection range over the legacy LANTIRN system.

It is loaded on station 5R (left side of the air intake), as seen on teh screenshots.
