What if ......

Saw the thread title, and thought there could only be one subject under discussion...

Be nice to see an Australian Vengeance, silly blighters bought Aardvarks because they thought they looked sexy.

Actually we bought them because they worked and have done so for decades.

And if you think that the sole purpose of this post is nothing more than an excuse to bump this thread... YOU'RE RIGHT. :bump:

And they did a very fine job too, I'm rather sad about their retirement, but .......

It was far from a foregone conclusion, I think the initial recommendation was that you purchase A-5 Vigilantes (there you go Stefan); but the decision was made to wait for the aircraft deemed to be most suitable. So Canberra placed the order in 1963 and waited.... and waited ....and the costs began to climb....... first aircraft delivered in 1968, acceptance to the service in 1973; the USAF 'kindly' loaned you some F-4E Phantoms. Like I said, in the end they did a very fine job, but if the UK Government had come to Canberra in 68-69 and offered to divert some TSR2s from the RAF order, what would the answer have been?

Steve, yes, I think there is still a story to be told about just how involved Chile was in the Falklands episode. Oh, and your ESDG/Sky scheme; I think you were a little confused, that wasn't the TSR2, that would be the Buccaneer ECM3s of 831 NAS. :icon_lol:

Nice pics Andy... :medals: Looking forward to the release.

Just took XS666 (fictional) for a hop from Cairns to Brisbane Intl. With Nigel's superb soundset, the big jet really roars. I'd really like to find a good soundfile for the Olympus engines, but Nigels F4 Sounds are a hard act to follow and seem to fit the "Vengeance" perfectly. I did have to re-fuel, as I am a little heavy on the throttle in this plane. I like the way the TSR2 handles when she's going fast.

Gone slightly on the back burner, mixture of real life & a few other things that need doing - but still picking away at it, hopefully have some sensible updates for you 'soon'.

Ah, the infamous 1976 Yearbook! Also partially responsible for my interest in "What If ...." although, as a big sci fi reader, it is a staple of the genre (Man in the High Castle is the classic example). Derek Woods' article in that Yearbook caused so much controversy that the entire run was pulped, and he had to tone it down a lot for the reprint. It would be great to reproduce those pictures in FS9, but with Itosan out of the game I doubt there is anybody who would tackle those subjects (I do know there was a P1121 started, but I'm pretty sure iy stalled a long time ago).

Dont count it out just yet... I've had an SR.177 on and off the back burner for about a year. Just dont really have the time to work on it as often as I'd like, so could be some time before theres anything worth showing of it.

That is good news! :applause: I keep dropping (not so subtle) hints to Nazca Steve that it would be lovely to see a P1052 version of his Seahawk (the P1081 would be too much of a change), but he's got enough on his plate with all those gorgeous Canberras.

I've got FSDS, so who knows, one day ......
