Hey all,


What is a good photo hosting service these days?

I see alot of people still go with Photo Bucket. Flickr seems to be going off in its own direction. Any advice for people that post alot of pictures everywhere?

I love flickr. Somehow I got a pro account for free. I think it might have to do with our ISP using yahoo's services.

As long as you keep the upload files 1024 x whatever, you won't run out of space with a free account.

Flickr is better for photos because photobucket compresses your files, causing loss of detail to an extent. I use photobucket for flightsim stuff though because it isn't as detailed as real life (obviously).

I'm a photobucket fan meself, quick and easy and havnt had any problems, allthough if you go free it does have a bandwidth limit on ya (10GB) and a storage of 500mb (again fine for most people), or you can pro and get unlimited, $24 a year though.
 
I use photobucket now...I'm thinking about switching to Flickr, I'm just too lazy to move photos so I'll probably start clean.
 
Flickr. Great site and a huge community as well.

You can upload your photos through iPhoto by the way :). For some reason however, iPhoto doesn't allow me to upload in bigger sizes (perhaps it's because of the free account...don't know), only in web size...I can't click on the other two options.

I'd say, try it for a while and you can always upgrade to a Pro account if you like it. You get detailed stats with it etc...something I should do as well, although I only have 63 photos online (you can upload 200 in the free account, if you continue to upload more after the 200th photo the oldest ones won't be shown anymore).

I am moving to Flickr as the Bucket is getting SLOW unless you get a paid account .
 
Paid Photobucket all the way for me Bill. As long as they stay viable and efficient with my paid account, I shall use them. They allow up to 1600 pixel width, larger than flickr, snapfish, smugmug, etc.

With the paid account, no adds and bloat words filling my page. No one hates adverts anywhere more than me, I hate advertizing almost as much as I hate bankers, insurance companies, and lawyers. Don't take it personal if any of you do any sort of work as this, this is just a subjective opinion..

I had a Webshots account for a few years. I dropped it because I rarely ever used it. Service was nice and the downloadable photos for wallpaper were great.

What I like about Flickr is the community. You could compare it to Facebook, but for photos...

Will look into that Joris, got a nice new desktop now. :icon_lol:

I have queried PB about allowing larger images, my native resolution is 1920 X 1200 on my 24-in. monitor. The thing is 1600 is perfect for my screen in a php board. But I hate that other have to scroll. I just like large images, being old and blind that is a positive.

Free Photobucket works great Bill. I've been using it for several years now, the best and easiest to use I seen. Storage space hasn't been a problem yet, tho I do believe the "paid for" version offers more.
 
I've happily used Photobucket for years. I've got a Flickr account too but it's rarely been used. Just recently I signed up to a new host www.Pix.ie which allows me to upload my full 4288x2848 resolution jpegs. :)

I had Flickr. up until last year. I let it go for a while. I noticed tons of people using PhotoBucket. I'll check the prices and see.

Speaking as a legal risk cover analyst for large commercial banking marketing strategies... :d ...I can advise after years of free Photobucket, you develop selective vision.
None of those blinking, flashing primary-coloured popups makes the slightest impression any more!
