What is the Best Weapons Pack?

Here is my situation. My Vista laptop runs CFS2 just fine EXCEPT when the OBJECTS_DP folder has too many files. That being the case, I want to download one weapons pack and use it for every plane I download. Here are my questions:

1. Are the default weapons as good as any of the add-on weapons packs?

2. If they are not as good, can the default weapons be deleted and replaced by a comprehensive add-on weapons pack?

3. If the default weapons are replaced, what would be the best weapons pack download to replace them with?

Consider also, that the replacement weapons pack would be used with all nationalities. I simply cannot install a new set of weapons for every plane in addition to all of the other DP files needed for scenery objects. I also do not want to have a different set of weapons for every nationality. I do want the replacement weapons to look as good as possible.

Ref #2 - Yes. You can delete the stock weapons and replace them with new ones. Recognize that you would have to change every aircraft DP file that uses stock weapons to reflect the new payloads as well as deleting all of the CDP files.

You would also want to delete every reference to the stock weapons in the mdlnames.dat file. The reason for doing this is because there is a size limit to that file as well and you can gain some space by removing all of the unused stock references.

Hi, Erufle

1. Are the default weapons as good as any of the add-on weapons packs?

From a visual "eye candy" point of view not at all. They are rough and way off from the real counterparts. I think that even TheB24Guy's effort in downsizing them, as they are horribly oversized, did not help them a lot, even if I am grateful to TheB24Guy for his effort.

2. If they are not as good, can the default weapons be deleted and replaced by a comprehensive add-on weapons pack?

Cody Coyote already gave you a very good answer here. I couldn't add anything more.

3. If the default weapons are replaced, what would be the best weapons pack download to replace them with?

Definitely Dbolt's Enhanced US weapon pack v.2 for USAAF and Navy/Marines. Then again Dbolt for Luftwaffe payloads, together with Pstrany's ones over at the Virtual Wings site.
Thicko made excellent Japanese weapons for his B5N, D4Y and B6N series, for some of the smaller weights the Metal Dreams pack v.2 can be used, but heavier calibers above 100kg are again oversized.
Thicko made also great looking VVS payloads for his Il-2 and Pe-2 series.
For RAF payloads I used alternatively Paul Rebuffat's Spit bombs, Alphasim's bombs, Pstrany's Hudson bombs and PF Burnage's Mosquito and Typhoon v.2 weapons. Ground Crew's RAF pack tends to become oversized above 125lbs.

I simply cannot install a new set of weapons for every plane in addition to all of the other DP files needed for scenery objects. I also do not want to have a different set of weapons for every nationality. I do want the replacement weapons to look as good as possible.

This is when a multiple install comes in handy. I only have available the correct weapons for a given war theatre and not all of the others. In other words, no Japanese Pearl Harbour wooden-vane torpedoes when I fly the Battle of Britain and viceversa.

Cheers!
