this pic is ofcourse from airliners.net,C185 on floats...what is the small round thing mounted under the starboard wing there?...my guess is a mirror to look at the floats? on landing or while taxi'ing?...

It is a mirror for checking the extension or retraction of the main wheels on the floats. Most aircraft with retractable landing gear have a mirror or some other way (polished spinner on a twin to check nose gear) of visually checking the landing gear status.
