Isn't the default FSX terrain mesh 38m? I might be wrong about that, but that's the number I have in my head. I was just looking around at these freeware terrain mesh addons and noticed they say things like "75M mesh files for Europe" and "Terrain mesh covering the alps - at 38 m resolution" meaning unless I'm wrong about FSX having a default of 38m these addons are either the same, or worse.

That of course makes no sense, so I must be mistaken about the default. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi,

The US mesh has 38m resolution. The Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and some parts of the Asia have 76m mesh. Some small parts of the World have even 10m mesh, like Dover cliffs or waterfalls in Africa.

The additional meshes may differ from the default, as some of them introduce more quality. If I remember correctly there were some comparision screenshots between default 76m mesh for Australia and 76 meter mesh created by Holger Sandman. Although the resolution is the same, they differ a lot.
