What the heck is FS9 SP1??

Anybody downloaded Howard's Mix freeware scenery upgrade for FS9.

It is a freeware on simviation. It claims that it makes the landscape in FS9 look like FSX. It says that it will only work on FS9 with SP1. I am not sure what SP1 is for FS9. Where can it be downloaded? I thought FS9 came in 2 versions, an older version 0 and a newer version 1.

By the way is Howard's Mix live upto its claims?

Thanks,
Sid

Not to be polemic, but nowadays (or even 5 years ago already) a software who would not receive at least a patch would be looked like a thing made by shoddy beginners (I cannot explain the extreme need for patches for every software under the sun in any other way). To be a good software, it MUST be bugged and require at least one patch (lately this name has fallen in disgrace, and "service pack" is being used instead, as it gives a more refined look and feel), and in spite of its non-successful would-be successor needing 2 patches (thing that had not been seen since FS2000 -- does it ring a bell? -- and only added other problems, resolving next to nothing of the old ones), FS9 needed a patch itself. :monkies:

In fact FS9.0 had a problem of memory leak attached to some of the new (compared to FS8) autogen, and seen that they were there repairing the leak, at M$ decided to put in what should have been there form the start (and had been retained to beef up the obligatory patch). :173go1:

Beware that some of the FS9 disks sold after the patch already have said patch inbuilt, and don't need other patches. :icon29:

The easiest way to know for certain if you need the upgrade is to open your FS9 folder and right-click the FS9.exe file. Go to Properties > Version. The original "Tin Can" exe is version 9.0.0.30612, and you should get 9.1.0.40901 with the patched version.
