I like the rare German WW2 designs like the Do-335, Ta-154, Me-209 II, Me-309. Would love to see some of the prewar designs that came from the golden age era. The Me-209 racer looks like quite a hotrod.

Also the rare cold war designs were quite facinating, like the F-90.

Korean Conflict aircraft (and combat simulation) from start to finish - all participating forces

the ultimate gun totin' aerial dogfightin' rooty tootin' Mig Alley cruisin, Yalu River crossing, hammer-jammin' fastest props vs earliest jets including 'copters and carriers....summer, winter terrain - daylight sorties, night sorties...

oh I'm outta breath...gotta...sit..down...

Curtiss R-2 & JN-2 aircraft from the 1916 Punitive Expedition into Mexico. :)

May not be the most rare or unusual aircraft but this period in American military aviation has always held a special spot in my life long love of aviation.

I've mentioned this before in another thread or two but the young pilot mentioned in the story, Captain Benjamin D. Foulois was a friend of my family and an occasional dinner guest over to the house when I was about 10 years old. We were stationed at Andrews AFB at the time.

I vividly remember him telling stories about learning to fly from the Wright Brothers.

You really don't have to go "back to the future" to pick a candidate.

How about one from the current war that I think few know about?

The Comp Air 7.

It was one of the very first aircraft to fly with the new Iraqi Air Force post-Saddam Hussein.

So, it has history behind it, it is general aviation themed so it will fly rather nicely in FSX, and it is unique -- at least in terms of payware in FSX.

I have a weird knack for early Pacific warbirds... P-36, P-39, P-40, F4F, TBD, SBD, Boomerang, Hurricane.
In this regard a TBD Devastator would be my kind of choice.

I also have a knack for Vietnam warbirds which flew in the "other theaters", so Ravens, Air America, Bird Air and anything that flew out of "Naked Fanny" (Nakhom Phanom).
Helio Courier or CH-34 maybe.

Cold war era bombers would be quite interesting, B-47s, B-50s, B-36s..etc. I bet A2A could do a wonderful B-50 since they already have some of the systems and modelling done from the 377. Maybe a B-29/B-50 package or somthing.

the cold war produced many new designs, some that were never put into production, but it is interesting how many advancements we made during those years, but i guess when you are trying to out-do another superpower, miracles will happen

Well, looks like i will be looking at everything between the World War 2 and the end of the Cold War periods (Including Korea and Vietnam). Thanks for everyone who voted and gave out some aircraft ideas. I will look into them. Thanks again!
