What war's rare aircraft interest you?

I thought that in the closing days of WW2,the Nazis ,in desperation,put out the most exciting,and innovative planes of all.The Military Channel,often shows that effort..with on the spot film....Rocket,Jet,Stealth,swept back wings,all the stuff of all our ,and Soviet new technology to come after WW-2......it seems the moon was possible to visit ,thru this German technology,born in war.!..Most often in a cottage industry enverment!...It seems War accelerates mans ability to wipe us all out......Like splitting the atom,also born in War and,on the Nazi calender.Makes "D" day most important!!.However when used in more peaceful methods,its still is a remarkable thing!!....This to me is a very interesting time in Aviation,the closing days of WW2,on all sides!!!

Interesting. When I was young man there would be only two choices. World War One and World War Two. How things have changed.
World War One isn't even mentioned in the poll, even though they flew real airplanes with wings and propellers and a leather cap on their heads.
Now it's filled with the exception of WWII with wars where they flew oil burners. I got one in my oil furnace, afterburner and all. Now they have to have a computer to keep them in the air and a brain bucket on their heads.

When the first plane was built with an enclosed cockpit, the old crusty air mail pilots were skeptical. “You expect me to crawl inside the airplane and peer out of windows to fly it? That's just crazy talk and I'll have none of it! Won't be able to feel the wind on my face, so how in heck am I supposed to know if I'm side slipping at night? You kids go find some other darn fool to fly while sitting inside your airplane!”

Of course they're talking about the 1970s, before that new fancy pants “fly by wire” nonsense was invented. “Fly by wire indeed, I've got your fly by wire right here, steel cables from my stick and rudder to the control surfaces, that's the only wires I need!”
Oh, how about a Martin B-10, or a Martin Maryland? That would be cool. Dang hope Bjoern doesn't see this!

I am much younger than you but I also like piston engined propeller airplanes. They have also very often nice sounds. I can't understand people who like jet engine noise.
