Whatever Floats Yer. . .

I finally had to admit defeat on several fronts. . .the pre-fab window frames were way too much trouble and so those were dropped in favor of a pseudo frame of flat dimensions. Also the 2x2 slats were ridiculous. Each one had to be cut to fit the correct area and we're talking about a LOT of strips. . .they're gone also. Here's a current WIP shot. I'm going to move on to doing some object placement of cabins and ground vegetation for now and let the dock ferment for awhile.

I'm not going that far. The Dock area is all I'm modeling, the rest of the buildings (condo's and hotels) will be default objects.:salute:

Looking AWESOME bud.....

could be fun to try pulling my Solent in at..... :icon_lol: and trying not to clatter the hut with an outboard float...

looking good though! kinda makes me want to get building again....:salute:

Here's what I've done for a public use object. I removed the Whistler Gazebo and Tool Shed and added a sort of Lean-to, moved the chairs over to one of the other floats so you can do some fishing and put the trash can at the walkway. I will add a sign with it's own texture so that you can simply paint the sign to customize your object using any paint program. It will be a generic sign that fits the object so if you don't have the ability or just don't want to mess with it, it'll still look fine. I'm also considering breaking the other walkways up in several configurations so you can mix and match. This will be released soon. . .before the scenery as there is still a lot to do there.

Here are the variations to the main object. It should cover most needs for those who want to customize. Hopefully these will be uploaded this morning. . .still working on the Whistler Scenery though.

Ed, those docks look really good. I think you'll have a lot of folks that will download them. Heck! Who knows maybe as they progress in their scenery building, they'll start uploading some here at the Outhouse.

How more or less tedious is modeling and texturing things in SketchUp?

If the workflow is better than in, say, Gmax or 3ds Max, especially regarding texture mapping, I might consider it as my future tool of choice for generic terminal buildings. (Should I ever need some.)

Ed,

I am pretty sure Mike Mann's version requires you have PNW installed so yours will not be a duplicate. I have found that PNW rearranges the shore lines quite a bit so the two will most likely be mutually exclusive.

Looking forward to the release.

Thanks,

Dave

Let me first say that I am probably not texturing correctly, lol. I say that because everyone who has stopped by to comment on the models seems to hate texturing. Here's what I do, let's say the main planks on the docks are being applied. . .I "import" that texture and draw it onto the dock surface. . .bam. . .done. Now, if there are 5 other places that the same texture is used, I take the color picker (eyedropper) select the texture I just applied to the dock and using the "fill bucket" I just paint all the other areas that use the same texture. In the span of 10 seconds I can "texture" everything that needs that "worn plank" texture. Done!! There have been a few instances where I had to use the "position texture" option because wood strips were drawn at an angle (like the eaves of a roof) and simply painting them in wouldn't work, but otherwise, I use the technique I just described.:salute:
