What's Happening: Merged Threads

Bill and Bretnutz, et al:

Well said my friends.

Al,

Wasn't it a hoot back in the old CFS 2 Online days? VB planes had a new aeroplane every month, Aluminum Cloud had new textures out every few weeks and the 1% crew was plugging away on flight models. It's amazing how many have kept the faith and still hang there hats here on occasion. Hard to believe that was almost 9 years ago. Still, we are marching forward and the CFS 2 download numbers usually equal or surpass similar types of downloads for the other flight sims and combat sims. Today's production or conversion of new aeroplanes airfields, scenery and ships would have staggered us back then.

I think that while we may have a few grey hairs today, we're only getting started with what we can do with the "Senior Sim" and the crew here today is as hard corps as ever before.

Yeah those were the days Jadg.
I d/l'ed my first plane from CFS online.

I also remember Pen32Win teasing everyone with AF=Midway. At the time that was everyone's favorite. The demand for it was so big and didn't people offer to e-mail it to others?

I had alot of the VB planes at that time.
The Virtual Navy started there.
Lowengin was a big part.

CFS2 was in it's infacy back than.Alot of people today don't realize what it was like back than.Alot of people paved the road for what's going on today.

aaah the memories of days gone by.

What's happenin' man ?

I went to bed last night thinking everything's fine -except in the real world of course - I wake up this morning to find things crumbling about my ears. I obviously haven't been paying attention here at the back.

The season of goodwill has obviously proved as stressful as every says it is.

It would be a sad day for lots of people if the SOH folded and I hope everyone will try and take themselves a little less seriously in the next two months.

Speaking purely for myself - I have no idea what being a server manager entails - how many of us do ? We have a man who's bustin' a gut for us - let's show some respect and appreciation.

I am dismayed and saddened that someone will impune and calliously attack those that do the yoemans work to keep this sim running for US!! It is a treasure house of information and, of course, the downlaods that we all thrive on. No where have I ever seen anyone offer their work here and request renumeration ( tongue in cheek they have but not seriously) and for that they have my everlasting, and heartfelt, THANKS!!!!!!
I have seen other forums I used to frequent denigrate into places that were nothing but a lovcale of name calling and character assasination. They are still there, but a shell of their former selves frequented by immature and narcisstic minds. PLEASE don't let that happen here.

This site is one of those, that after reading the news, financial, e-mail sites, that I come to every morning, and evening, to just relax and enjoy.
Here is some food for thought. Recently, we were the target of a attack that knocked the site down. Now this apparently personal attack on the moderators. Is it possible all from the same person(s) with the nefarious intention of destroying this font of information? DON'T let it happen, PLEASE!!!!!!

Hey Bill, I'll keep my flashlight handy... lol!

We'll iron this out, yet! Ickie, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO X 1,000,000!!! :ernae::ernae::ernae:

I have had immeasurable help from this forum by many and have appreciated ALL the extras available done by so many skilled modders. I am still adding things that many of you have added to your sims a long time ago! Thanks to everone, especially to those who are or have been moderators & etc that are keeping this site going!
I hope this site stays for my own selfish reasons:jump:

Hey Highpockets. Haven't seen you for a while. I hope all is well on your end.

It looks like all is in order and we can consider the event the last hiccup for 2008. Looks like we're on an even keel for 2009.

Well

Thank God for that- got my cfs2 in its pre release seems like a hundred years ago, This place is just like home, Will stay for as long as i am Welcome.
have a good one

Still say this is CFS's golden age. Can't even keep up with all the quality work coming out almost weekly. :a1089: I know, but I really wanted to use this smily and couldn't think of a good reason.

I support this Hobby whole Heartly!

It has given us many pleasure in intertainment throughout the years through this Noble Hobby.

Please keep this Forum open and ask us what we can do to help you out and I"am sure the Community will help you out.

This Website is Therapitic to many of us since it helps us by keeping our minds off the daily stress of life this days.

Its been use to teach our Younger members the History of Aviation as well.

I will support you any way I can!:wavey:

Whew, that's a relief, I only just noticed this thread and was appalled at the thought that this hangout could go down the gurgler! It is like a favourite watering hole and is the last bastion of CFS2, the knowledge base contained here is priceless to me and I will burn everything I have not yet DL'd to CD. I also downloaded my first add on plane from CFS2 Online way back when, a MKIX spitfire converted from CFS1 and moved over to the Out-house when the big migration happenned. More power to the CFS2 family, the sim and the hobby :friday:

I'm relieved to hear that SOH will stay the same.
Were there any troubles while I have been away form the forum???
I still can't figured out all the matter yet, but it seems the storm satarted all of the sudden to me...
I'm not familier with server administration job so that I can not be a big help, but
I'm happy to save a little money for donation.

Sincerely

Daisuke

A lot can happen in a couple of days! I tried to get in on 31st and couldn't, and come back today to discover this!

Don't know where I'd be without you guys here putting up with my endless prattle and useless info:icon_lol:

Jagdflieger- Thanks for the inquiry. All is well here. As a retired person, I sure have been busy!! I am still tinkering with add-ons to my CFS2 in all Theaters of Ops.
I am sure glad things have worked out. I have all three MS-CFS versions plus IL-2 and European Air War. Had Janes WWII at one time.
Keep coming back to CFS2 and this board!
Again, thanks to everyone involved. I doubt that I will ever be able to contribute anything. I'm just a user:applause:

All this comes as a shock to me after a pleasant Holiday Season with my family. SOH has given me tremendeous support and helped me to get running on various flight sims, which have helped me through some serious health problems. I have been a member only since late 2006, but I have met here many friends. My computer skills are elementary at best, but I am learning, especially with the help from all of you. I have a great admiration for Ickie, Hey_Moe, Willy, Henry, Rami (the campaign nut), Jagd, MaskRider, Talon, Panther and many others in not any particular order. I have tried to help by supplying some drawings of rather esotric FS8 and CFS2 aircraft to my two Brazilian friends Peperez and Payakan. It is fun to deal with people from all over the world. I hope that cooler heads will prevail and please remember that life is short enough as is. Let's enjoy this forum and have fun.

May I offer my input?

....I can't think of another place where we could keep CFS2 going as effectively as we do here....

Perhaps a tad late, but I want to post my opinion as well.

Very well said Rami, I couldn't put it in better words.

With all the things that were developed and shared by so many generous, talented folks, CFS2 can still create headaches and start sputtering. On which shoulder do I cry usually when this happens?

But here at SOH, of course!

Thanks to the gentle and clear answers I always got through the years by so many SOH friends, I increased my knowledge of this fabolous simulator a zillionfold. I will not even mention the increased knowledge of WWII aviation history, WWII aircrafts and WWII history at large. I am sure there are quite a few people out there that can state the very same thing.

Shutting down SOH would bring me close to removing CFS2 from my pc, and I can't think of anything more awful, after almost 7 years of constant tinkering and adjusting to make it better.

Not only that.

I do not know of any other Internet place where I could get the same genuine friendship, moral support during difficoult times, a good laugh very very often, the sense of a different world other than the ugly news we get from the media, the same true passion for WWII aviation history, the same fun at tweaking a computer program and sharing its knowledge....need I say more?

Besides, I want to stress what I strongly believe and read other people wrote: we all made friends in ways that are perhaps stronger than if we had met in person, even though probably we'll never do meet.

With SOH closed I'd also lose interest in Internet, I am too old to be so enthused in spending hours in front of it and my use of a computer would genuinely be reduced to a job need as a work tool...what an ugly picture!

I am so thrilled Ickie decided to keep SOH going, I hope he reads this late, but very felt, reply of mine or someone kindly points it out to him.

Thank you, Ickie and all SOH team!!!

There are not enough words to praise the dedication you all poured in running a hobby which has the dimensions of a full-time job. I haven't forgotten the server hard disk crashes, the hackers attacks and I can only imagine all the work needed to run smoothly such a complex thing as SOH.

We all know how much time a computer can take from someone's real life, as here we are all more or less better than average computer users.

If anything else, anybody becoming a member and starting to use SOH, should always feel grateful just for the fact someone else is freely giving his/her own personal free time to keep it running.

Period.

I haven't posted here much but I have to say this is a great place. If I have a question I ask and it gets answered.I hang out at another forum that has nothing to do with flight sims and we have the same problem. So having said all that ,let me say this...thank you everyone for everything you do.Keeping CFS alive and helping us less savvy to fly.

Man I wish there was a way I could help.....
