What's this ?

I'm putting my money with N2056. It's a windshield deicer, similar to can be seen on the Beechcraft B58 Baron.

edit: I see that it has a cannon plug. So it's a removable deicing system. Thank you A&P schooling...

Boy, you can't stop technology. That definitely wasn't my first guess. When I was working on my A&P, the pilots wore a scarf to wipe their goggles...:icon_lol:

Why wouldn't it have some type of de-icing built into the actual windscreen? Is pretty interesting that someone thought of this though. Always have to be careful with window de-ice on the ground. We have built in de-ice in the windows on the H-60's and if you turn them on while on deck it will crack the whole window within a matter of minutes. Going to assume since someone said it will melt through the window that the 208's are made out of some type of plexi?

Mostly cost, but also 'need'. A C208 bought for ops in Thailand or the Seychelles can omit all deice equipment as it would be rare to encounter ice. On resale, that will have an impact for potential buyers. A built-in system ( like heating elements ) is expensive at purchase and if replacement is required, plus it becomes a mtce item once incorporated.
Therefore a lot of manufacturers have set up things like windshield deicing as an option and/or as after-market.
