Which Joystick?

Thanks for all your advice everyone. I took the plunge and bought a Thrustmaster Warthog, which arrived a couple of days ago. It's taken me a few days of experimentng to set the controls how I like them. I like to use FSX's control settings, but found I had to use some settings from FSUIPC as well for setting the multiple throttles!
The feeling from the stick is excellent, but there is a small problem with it, some of the backlighting for the text on the throttle base aren’t working, and when I phoned there support helpline, they wanted me to send it to France fron here in the U.K, for a repair! I think I will live without a few lights.

Regards,
Ian.

Ian, glad you got what must be the best joystick/throttle combination produced thus far. I too have had much struggle with getting the multiple throttles to work correctly in FSX, though the SOH team did find a link to sansamurai's walkthrough for FSUIPC. If you don't mind sharing what you needed to get both throttles working properly, please share either via PM or on here.

Anyway, welcome to the Warthog clan....you will soon forget the cost vs others and find it a well made piece of equipment. BTW, if you haven't purchased DCS A-10C yet, it matches up quite well with it out of the box.

Hi Strykerpsg,
You will need a paid for versionof FSUIPC, as the free version won’t allow you to do this.
The way I set it up (and I’m not claiming this is the definitive method, but it worked for me) is that I went into the FSX controller menu and delete all joystick associations for the throttle.
I then loaded a flight, went to Add-ons-FSUIPC- axis assignment, moved my left throttle and set it to “axis throttle 1 set”. I repeated the exercise for the right throttle but set it to “axis throttle 2 set”
That worked for all single and twin engine aircraft, but not for aircraft with four engines. For those I had to tick “aircraft specific” and create a setting called “four engines” Do the exercise above, but the axis throttle 1 and two need to be in separate boxes, one above the other (bottom left of page). Unfourtunatly, every time you first fly a new four engined aircraft(or paint scheme) you will have to go into FSUIPC and click aircraft specificand then apply your “four engines” profile to that aircraft, not a big job, buta little irritating if you forget.

Hope this helps,
Ian.

Thanks Ian. I will get mine set up tomorrow, as we just got back from Portland. It was time to upgrade our winter gear with the Presidents day sales going on in Woodburn, OR and our quarterly trek to Voodoo donuts, they absolutely rock.

Looking forward to plying the virtual skies again in my Mudhen, Spartan, Superbug and the Bronco.

Matt
