Which KPDX Portland for FSX?

OK AIFlightplanner it is then, i do have a lot of those files and that will really help thanks a lot for that tip. i have some expensive payware that needs to be sure to have all traffic files in FSX format or i wont see their add ons flights, so that is just what i need for that too. thanks. We are very close to having succeeded i think :) thanks to much effort by many including esp you Falcon :)
 
... and I'm right back to the shorelines in the water around Seattle whenever I use FZ02.... What have I screwed up, Chris? I've enabled and disabled every part of UT_USA, but they come back the second I enable '02.. I didn't have this before I started messing with it again...:confused:
 
i have those double coastlines too, i guess that will be one of the bugs we cant do anything about.
i see that UT US has no repair function, ah well.

wow that conversoin process is great very easy, i have tried two other conversoin programs and neither worked, this one went like a charm, thanks so much for that heads up Falcon, i cant wait to see all that traffic in there now :)

i got it working with full traffic finally that conversion did the trick. I am done i think, and will move on to other things, this was a fun learning experience. I will share my final file set up with anyone who owns this and is interested.

if you do end up with a detailed bgl for the military side Falcon i would love to see it.

the jetways dont line up right..but i dont have the skill or the time to learn how to fix that. someone who has the skills can do that :)

You have three times the AI traffic I do even after the conversion. Not sure what's up there.

I'll work on the Military Traffic this week and hopefully I can make sense of it all and get some traffic going over there as well.

The jetways can be moved, that much I know, but like you I'm unaware of exactly how.
 
Working on the Military side right now. In Lieu of AI Traffic, until I figure out AI again, I placed some C-130 objects along with a lot of the normal AGE equipment, stands and specialists you might see on the line. This is a definite WIP, but it's taking my mind off the stupid AI snafu.
 
falcon that looks just great. i am sure we will figure out the AI eventually, what i did was try the bgl for traffic i singled out earler as a seperate add on in the add on file, it gave me some planes but not many, .... so i resorted in the end to just WoAI and lots of it, just about all the american carriers i could find and a lot from overseas too. but, i have decided to try the Flight One Ulitimate Traffic FSX to see what it can do as it advertises military traffic too. I think we have the main points of how to work the scenery and with the two bgls to add some trees and to exclude and replace the default terminals with the good ones from the scenery...and with the addition of the extra trees and the military side you have done, if you feel comfortable sharing them with us, i think we have this moved to FSX comfortably. I took out the three main runway light bgls and that seems to have solved the no planes during the day problem. I dont see any way to restore the traffic that they built into the FS9 version, but i have hopes that we can handle that with either WoAI which is freeware or Ulitmate Traffic X which is payware.... for future ppl to follow us on this. I will also try to contact the designers on the original scenery and see if we can get some help from them, and or if they plan to work on an updated version. It would be interesting to see if we can learn about some of the changes needed, but over all i would say I think we have done a great job on this. It is great to see such a nice terminal there in KPDX and with your military improvments on that side, it will be a beautiful addition to any install.

I'm afraid that since the website is gone and I know the original designer is gone (that was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen too), I doubt there will be any help coming from anyone connected with FlightScenery. I know there is someone, probably Vauchez (sp?) who knows exactly what needs to be done to correct even the small problems we still have, like the alpha channels and the AFCAD file, but he disassociated himself from the project right at it's height and never returned. I don't know what ever happened to him, maybe burnout, maybe a serious illness, who knows. I just know that one day he was there, then poof. . .gone and never even a single line posted by him after that in his own forum. He just disappeared.
 
Almost forgot, I'll get all the bgl's and textures together in a zip file and send them on to you to test on your system for the additions I made ASAP.
 
thanks re the zip, and ys, i knew about V moving on, he moved over to the French set of AddOns, the VFR set for Paris, and differnt regions of France. I have them installed but have not had time to test them yet, so I am thinking I maybe able to find him there. If there is no plan for FlightOne to do an update maybe he can and will help us, who knows? :) thanks again for sharing those files, this has been a fun project, I really enjoy working on things to help our community enjoy FSX even more. :)

and i will test and compare Ultimate Traffic with WoAI, i suspect either one will work to restore the traffic.

I think maybe one reason i have more heavies than your install is that i made a double install of some of them by mistake so i have two copies of some of the big guys, and was going to have to clean them out :) Guess there wont be any problem with full flights in my instance of KPDX :)

Hmmm, I guess what I'd like from him is some kind of explanation really, for deserting a website completely without explanation and leaving everyone wondering.

Does he have a website for the French addon work he's doing?
 
I believe he and his partner both have worked extensively on the very detailed and large add on series for France, it is a huge project really and from what I have seen in screenshots and some brief visits, before i had to upgrade my install, remarkable work.... i dont know the details, i have joined the website over there but i dont think i have been activated yet, it is holiday time in France and things will be slow until everyone gets back from the beach or the mountains.... but i will try to find him and get some help.

Being a scenery designer is remarkably intensive work from what i have seen over my time studying these sims, and working with the changes between FS9 and FSX has been a steep challenge for them as well as for us from what i hear. So hopefuly, in the spirit of sharing from that experience we maybe able to get some help, but you never know.
 
I'd sure appreciate the secrets to some of your mods (if you will), Chris/Falcon! It all looks great.

I believe about two years ago, Reality XP, Flight Scenery and Dreamfleet formed a small group called "Airliner XP" who would build "the best Airbus the world has ever seen". It took away Paul Golding from Dreamfleet and (I also believe) prevented any further development of his fabulous Boeing 727 for FSX, and also Vauchez, who promptly lost all further interest in the Flight Scenery program. It's too bad, because that project is also now dead.

Paul, if you backtrack in this thread i think you will find most of the bgls needed to update, to remove the default terminal and add some trees and other details, but you need to own the original scenery too, which is a payware.

We are adding traffic using either WoAI or Ulitmate Traffic as the original traffic does not seem to translate from FS9 to FSX which is a pity as they had a great mix of commercial and GA including a nifty Beaver sitting over on the private side. ah well, at least we can run this in FSX now and it works pretty well. You can try the UT adaptations, i havent, as i have enough trouble keeping things working with that as it is. :)

Sounds good, Chris: I haven't much of a problem with lack of traffic: I used to have either clouds or traffic! I now have REX - which has fabulous clouds, works at a better frame rate - one that will allow more traffic that the meagre 10% that I'm used to. I keep drooling over the i7, but I'm so close to retirement I can smell it! $1500 on a system upgrade means an extra two months of work!

Thanks for posting the instructions and files for converting Flightzone Portland to FSX!

After making all modifications as suggested above I too experienced double coastlines around Portland as well as all the way to Seattle as a result of the Flightzone software not being compatible with UTX USA.

What I did was to delete all of the files that were changed to .org from the UTX patch plus all of the other HL and HP simular type files as well. In addition, I did not put in the EX files listed in one of the tweak downloads that were posted above. All of these files do the same thing that UTX does so they are not needed if you have UTX USA. Just let UTX USA do it's thing without interference from these Flightzone files and everything looks great without any double coastlines.

Mike, these files you speak of, are we talking about the scenery folder for the Portland scenery or somewhere else? I have a few "ori" files but nothing with and "org" extension. Also, I found a few "hl" files, but no "hp" or "ex". Can you elaborate?
 
In Addon Scenery/ Flightzone02_SC/Scenery. Arrange by name. I deleted FL9159150_FZ02_CRG_EX.ori, HL915150_FZ02_CRG_EX.ori through HP_123126_FZ02_lwm.bgl (about 36 files), RD915150_FZ02_CRG_EX.ori through RD_FZ02_122126.bgl (5 files), RR915150_FZ02_CRG_EX.ori, ST915150_FZ02_CRG_EX.ori

Plus if present I deleted FL915150_FZ02_EX.bgl, HL915150_FZ02_EX.bgl, HP915150_FZ02_EX.bgl, RD915150_FZ02_EX.bgl, RR915150FZ02_EX.bgl, ST915150_FZ02_EX.bgl

I hope I got all of this correct.

Updated Parking For Terminal Gates

Hi Guys,

I came across this tread while doing some research on converting FZ 02 Portland to FSX. I too have found that it is "usable" although not perfect by removing the files you have mentioned. I am trying to use it with Orbx PNW and Ultimate Traffic 2. It seemed like the best KPDX airport around to use with Orbx. The results so far are pleasing, and the scenery blends nicely with both Orbx PNW and Jim Harris' new release of the Portland Cityscape, availabe for free download on the Orbx website. I have had to add several Exclusion rectangles to the airport and Portland bridges. The biggest problem I saw was how the gate parking did not line up correctly with the terminal buildings. I am working to correct this with AFX, but still needs a little work. Has anyone at this point redone the AF2 FILE for the airports. If so, I would like to collaberate the efforts. If not, i will be posting the finished work on my website to share with all. I would also be interested in the military parking and added trees .bgls that was mentioned earlier. Please contact me if interested in collaberating on this project. I also plan to "fix" FlyTampa Seattle NEXT in order to have a decent PNW package that enhances Orbx PNW. Of course, Bill Wammack over at Orbx could just release a new airport package for both Seattle and PDX and save us all a lot of trouble...LOL.

This will (partly) happen obviously, but I don't know if Bill Womack is the actual author. So before you delve into a big KPDX project see this Orbx roadmap:

In the OrbX forum John has already confirmed a release for this year.

It seems that OrbX is shying away from KSEA because of the low FPS you get in that area (AFAIK that's the same reason why they shyed away from YSSY).
