'White Deer'

There is an island in Puget sound with white deer on it. The ferry from Anacortes, WA to Vancouver Island, BC sails by it. Can't remember the name though.

Those are true White Deer not albino's.

The White Deer is not always all white some times it is spotted. Then it is referred to as Pie Bald. Don't ask me who came up with that term.

Believe it or not the first Albino Deer I ever saw was in Castle Shannon a suburb of Pittsburgh.

The Indians warned the White Settlers not to hurt the White deer as it was bad medicine (yielded bad luck).

Years ago when I saw my first Pie Bald deer in Indiana County PA I was warned about the bad Karma in killing the White Deer. The Hunters I was with told stories about people they knew that killed white deer and they all suffered terrible luck in the year that followed. Car wrecks, houses burning down, and for some of them death.

It may all be false but it was nothing I ever wanted to test. Better to let the White Deer live then become the stuff of camp side stories. :kilroy:
