WHO makes the best Phantom for CFS2

I know, but that was a lot to "Alpha out". And it still had that strange light in the nose...

Having a native CFS2 plane without any of those issues, the election was clear to me.

Just teasing, Mate - That plane is an absolute NIGHTMARE to modify [unless there are hours to waste] !!! :wavey:

I thought it was time to make a Phantom skin package so after reading this thread I decided to stick with the Alphasim one. Looks pretty good. But, isn't it something wrong with this model? It seems, at least to me, there's no way to apply textures to the stabs. Too bad. And secondly, have anyone manage to get rid of the cyan cockpit glass color without corrupting it's transparancy? Feedback welcomed. :banghead:

Morton

This is one of the 4 textures for the wings:

05F4N.jpg

All four share the same structure: one part of the wing and one of the stabilizer.

aha! Something fishy here. What version (link?) of the AlphaSim F-4 is this Japlance? Because my F-4 Wing texture looks quite different.

Mort

Sorry, my fault. I thought i worked on the Alphasim F4, but I see now it's Tom Sanfords A4E upgradepackage (Hayden,Scott, Williams) . :redf:

I maybe came a little late into this thread, so I wont let go of this topic yet.

Isn't the old Alphasims F-4 "very" old? I mean, very small simple MDL, no dynamic shine etc. Is it worth dressing up with new textures? The F-4 by Tango Romeo seems to be more up to the present standards. And that brings me to the next question. If Tango Romeo reads this, is the strange texture mapping of the stabs something that can be changed?

Mort

Hey Morton,

Your not off topic. Maybe the best F-4 for CFS2 Has not been put together yet? I really like where this conversation has gone!

Thanks,

Ryan

Let me download Tango's F-4 package and run it through ACM....I should be able to export a set of wire frame UV maps that will show where every part of the plane is texture mapped to. Will get back to this thread...and most likely post a set of wire frames for those who want to paint Tango's Phantom.

OBIO

Just took a look at the wire map layout for Tango's F-4....the stabs are not mapped. I haven't looked at the canopy yet.

Thanks Obio.:salute: It's a nice F-4 so lets hope those issues can be fixed. Unless ther's some other FS9/X Phantoms out there which can be converted for CFS2. Lets see where this ends Ryan.

Mort

The pickings for FS9 Phantoms is slim. There is one by Ito...no VC and you know his policy on converting his aircraft for CFS2 use. There are the payware versions by Alphasim, Cloud9 and IRIS. As important as the F-4 Phantom was to the military of so many nations, it is amazing how little attention it got in flight simming. Fifty plus years of active military use should earn any airframe a spot of honor in flight simming.

OBIO

I agree Obio. I called F-4s in on ANGLICO missions. WOW!!!!!!!!

What an aircraft.

BTW Morton, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

A really nice, accurate and usable cockpit would be VERY advantageous if you do up a skin or two for the Phantom!
(Not so subtle hint).....

Well... Maybe

...The pickings for FS9 Phantoms is slim....

There are quite a few UNFINISHED F-4s available.... Witness Below:

This is the current issue (7/13/09) of the Source File Archive Catalog. The Archive is an offline resource containing nearly 500 FSDS and Gmax source files, most of which are available to developers for use in new projects. The Archive gives designers a secure storage facility where they retain control over access to their files.

A new F-4 is just waiting for an astute builder to pick up the tin snips...
SC
:kilroy:

I have the source code for a couple of the Alphasim F-4s (E and N models)....plus the Alphsim F-8 source files stashed someplace. The F-4 source files are FSDS...so if anyone knows how to use FSDS to work on models, and is willing to upgrade these two F-4s and modernize them a bit...give them specular shine, maybe enhance the VC a bit, make them multi-LOD...give me a holler and I will e-mail the source codes to ya. Michael Davies released a good number of his old Alphasim source codes a couple years ago...I wish I had them all....lost them in a HD crash.

I also have the original layered paint kits for the Alpha F-4E and F-4N. Paint Shop Pro originally, plus I have them in Photoshop format. Also the paint kit for the F-8 once I find those files in my archives. And paint kits for the Alpha A-4s that I created some time back.

OBIO

Should be some possibilities here Obio. My FSDS experience is limited to rearranging texture mappings. But I'll be happy to make up some texture/panel parts. Have a lot of various collected bits and pieces to start with.
