Who remmbers this game? Top Gun: Fire at Will (1996)

I think that must just about the only flight sim I never did own. :banghead: Alas the golden age is gone, it used to be every other month or so it seemed a new sim would emerge.

The golden years of combat flight sims

I got into combat flight simulators since before Microsoft's CFS1 and have enjoyed the whole series.Still into CFS3 ,( with all different versions, theaters of operation ,aircraft, missions and ect...), there is still much life to it. Even though there are fewer cfs's being developed today,(thanks in part to FPS game popularity), the cfs's that are out the are simply awesome and most have long lives ie; The wonderful, long lived/constantly improved Il-2 series, the highly rated, award winning, amazing and ultra- realistic RoF series,Flaming Cliffs 3 and other DCS series,Strike Fighter 2-(and other new and improved cfs's from Third Wire Productions),OFF versions 1 and 2-(a little older but still pretty good) ,the ultra realistic and totally reworked and amazing WOFF and there's more cfs's to be released soon and in the near future. We still have a good choice of periods, from WWI to modern jet age and everything in between. What we do have now with the current combat flight sims. are extremely accurate flight characteristics ,well thought out, refined, constantly updated,beautifully/realisticly done aircraft, amazing lifelike scenery ,total immersion ,super powerful AI's,powerful mission builders and much more.I can remember,in the so called "golden years",that there was a very large number of real duds ,eat up with bugs and no updating and fixes offered later after released. Most were more like an arcade game with terrible flight modeling, AI,graphics, effects, scenery and more. Back then you had to just take your chances but most often you just wasted your money and time .These problems had a big and negative effect on combat flight sim market and reputation for quite a long time. The bad cfs games, old and newer have now been vetted and because of the market today only the best cfs's survive . With the current cfs's out now interest is coming back slowly. There is one thing about the latest/greatest combat flight sim's out now is that nearly all require and/ or recommend a powerful and current PC to take advantage of the complex combat flight sim's engine/programing,powerful/complex AI ,awesome/stunning graphics/scenery and ulta-realistic effects that current combat flight sim's have along with smooth and ultra-fast FPS for even more added realism and immersion.Almost all require Win.7 64bit as the O.S. .It can get to be really quite expensive to have a gaming computer that really performs great with all these current cfs's at maximum settings and still be fast and smooth. Still using a decent but outdated XP PC for all my older generation cfs installs,(still love XP's OS) .Saving up now to have a self-built high-end PC. After much researching i found i could save a ton of money by building it myself. I found the best website out there about building your own gaming PC. Covers everything you need to know from start to finish. The PC builds covered are from budget build to the extreme build and some in between . I'll be building the high-end PC listed at the site for around $1350,a shockingly whole lot less than a factory built,(@$2500-$3000), and it has better/more reliable components. This website does all the work for you ie; selecting/matching all the components that are the highest quality for the money. The site is kept up to date monthly( to be current). They also have links to Amazon,(best prices),for every component listed for each build . Here is the link to the website : http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/ Hope this info. helps somebody who is on a tight budget ,like me, but wants to enjoy the latest combat flight sim's out there now and for what the future holds. Thanks for the memories . Combat flight sim's sure have come a long way since back in 90's!!!(thanks for the bad memories) Sorry for being so wordy but i guess i had a lot to say about my favorite hobby. I really think now is the true "Golden Years" !!
