Why do you like cfs3?

Pat Pattle

SOH-CM-2024
I was just wondering and interested to know why folks prefer to still fly cfs3 in preference to the other combat sims, like IL2 for instance.
Maybe you fly more than one sim depending on your interests at a particlular time? Is it the aircraft, campaigns, ground objects??

(For me I think it's because I've invested so much time in it over the years I'm loathed to start all over again with something else!)

Pat :)

Pat, The reason I like CFS3?
Cfs3 is like my old pants, shirt, and shoes thy fit.
CFS3 is like a fine wine that gets better with time.
I will never get tired of football, basketball and baseball as long as it's my team playing.
CFS3 is my team.

i think its because i can fiddle with it, i am not in the same leauge as some of our more talented chaps, but even if i upload a skin, and someone thanks you and said they like it, then thats very satisfying. And i have learned a lot of history about the airwar in WWII, and of course i have met some very nice people on the SOH CFS3 forum, OH and its FUN.

I like CFS3 because it is easy-peasy to modify. Don't like the flight models? Replace 'em. Missing some aircraft, vehicles, or whatever? Go make 'em!

The model-building and project aspects of CFS3 have become entire hobbies unto themselves, yielding up new fields of enjoyment. Without them, I'd have banished CFS3 to the boxes in the attic years ago.

Viso's got it. Add to that the other key element - a decent crowd of people.

Strike Fighters is as easy to modify as CFS, once you've got the hang of it, but while there ARE some pretty decent people in it, there are a number who are... well, difficult to work with. There isn't much of the sense of fun you find here at SOH, over at CombatAce. Forgive me for saying this, but the whole set up there is too US-Corporate. Not much of a sense of humour, some of them. Walking on eggs... Those who've been following my relationship with ETO will know what I'm talking about, because we had a bit of that here too, at one time.

Here, I'm prepared to go that one step further because I know there will be people who'll notice. That helps to motivate you.

And finally, I use CFS3 to do screenshots which you could qualify as virtually artistic. You can't do that with any other sim I know. Not and blow the living daylights out of some poor soul immediately afterwards!

I like WW2 era aircraft and couldn't possibly afford one, let alone afford to fly it. Otherwise, Nigel and Viso have said it all.

Honestly, my favorite part is getting to toggle to gunner and bombardier positions. Not available on other sims!

Because of the fact I can change mod or play with the game to inprove it and add to it..
CFS3 is a game that can be added to and keep it fresh..and never dull..

I started initially because it had Mosquito's, not brilliant but fair enough. But then I found that there were all these brilliant people who made it a million times better. Eventually you have legendary aircraft, obscure aircraft; and drivable tanks, vehicles, boats, ships and subs; airbases with amazing levels of immersiveness; and different theatres and more missions than you shake a stick at. Brilliant! Crucially the community has enough old timers (am I one now?) to give continuity and plenty of new blood to keep the interest levels up and bring in new ideas and angles. Sure there's been arguments, falling outs and schisms, but in a community of maybe hundred plus creative individuals is that surprising...just look at 'real' life.

My kids thinks it's brilliant that I have friends/associates/contacts (pick your own label chaps) in several continents and many nations and so do I.

:salute:to you all

You all are correct in your honesty for the sim.

I love CFS3 personally because it really makes you feel as if you're involved in the actual combat of the era. When I flew my first 1200 missions with the sim (well over 3-4 months flying time) it made me truly understand what the RAF, Luftwaffe and American pilots went through in the war. Having your aircraft damaged from flak, bailing out over enemy territory, assisting in the ground and sea efforts, and the general dynamics of the sim make it truly memorable and fun to play.

Its a massive improvement over the original CFS1. The most I love about it is the aircraft. Especially whats on the market now. I fell in love with my new Boomerang a few days ago despite her crashing my sim ( its working now thanks) And its great in the ground attack role. Now I've heard of a Heinkel 177 on the way, and a Catalina, and a B-24, and a few Battles in the mix. It makes you glad to see how so much effort is being placed in the sim. I love it. :salute:

CLAP CLAP CLAP

I agree IL2 was different and had some good points but the uses killed it for me plus the fact the way bounced the power back and forth because people complained about this to powerful and this was not...... next patch everything changed...... and in time destroyed the game. CFS3 is a good game cause it can be modded to the era the user wants to play in WWI,WWII, Modern war planes ect. you don't like it change it.

Good Post....... and yes my grammer is terrible.

First i created FAFL342 bomber squad, from an historical french squad operated in africa and west europe.
Flying experience was already great with cfs1, also for bombers, with TailGunner2 and BRunHost.
cfs2 didnt cover our area. and we adopted immediately cfs3 when it came out.
We fly on internet, most of the time on missions, and we had great experience with MOG squad.
The end of GameMatch was terrific. no more activity with CFS3. no more pilot...
We survived flying on FS2004/FSX.
We also tried to migrate to IL2. But i couldnt find the same about missions, i was a bit fed up with toundra texture, and no realistic area. In cfs3, we can name places, cities, airfields we are flying over. With il2 : toundra !
In september 2009, i had some free time, and i managed to reactivate missions over internet. And now we are about 8 french pilots flying over western europe with CFS3.
But to welcome newbies, we have to run a standard release, cfs3.1a. MAW and ETO would come later.

Why I like CFS3?

Lots of very nice modelled italian planes!!!!!

No, seriously, there are so many talented modellers working for CFS3 and supplying us with a whole lot of beautiful aircraft, tanks, vehicles, ships, airfields, and even whole theaters, so what else can I do than....:isadizzy:

1. saying :icon29: THANKS :icon29: to all these guys :wavey:

and...

2. just loving CFS3?

You can build the game to your individual style. Sounds, effects, planes CFS3 has more add-ons than any other combat sim I've seen. I'm no computer wiz, but with a little research and some helpful sites like SOH and AVHISTORY I've managed to make CFS3 more than just a game, its a hobby. My ol lady hates it.......:icon_lol:

I like CFS3 because of its uniquck feel and look. I mostly like it because you can fly Bombers with all their capabilities like shoot back at enemy Fighters through its defensive guns. What I do not like is that its mostly a ETO WW2 Sim. Not a true representive WW2 Sim. It has almost has almost nothing representing the Pacific. The Pacific addition is very limited.

Its still a fine Sim in my opinion!

that's it, exactly.

With ETO and MAW + numerous downloads available, I can build historic and semi-historic missions from what I've read in books and magasines. More than just a game, it's a hobby!

WHY ?

Because...

- My first FS was a F16 game on a... (let's remember) Amstrad 6128 !
- Some years later Red Baron II on a W95 PC, I played a whole campaign
from 1916 to 1918 with 10 pilots (all immortals) and started making
little repaints of buildings...
- With a new PC, I bought a discount CD with CFSI for 5 euros or less...
and had in sight with that to get in CFS3. And now how CFS3 can look like : - Incredible WWI sim - WWII theaters ETO, MAW, PTO - Korean air War sim
All of us can improve and share every functions and aspects to make it more and more immersive. As many other says it's an entire hobbie.

CFS3 was on my road... as my girlfriend !

Nice thread Pat !

Because,
It's fun, it loads fast ... faster than my FSX environment ...
Being in a bomber with a lot of enemis around you and trying to survive ...

It's a pity that the airbases do not have more visible runways .

It's fun and most addons are jewels . Thanks to all the guys for this.
