Why is SOH Important to YOU?

SOH-CM-2025
Ever since coming to SOH, I have been impressed with the friendliness of the place. It is almost like having an extended family. I have come to know and enjoy the company of many members, in the different forums that I frequent, i.e. NHs, FSX, Cantnia, and Photography. I have even met several of my fellow member in my travels.

What is it about SOH that you find special?

No where on the web can you find the knowledgeable and friendly people that are gathered here.

Couldn't have said it better. The reason why I came the very first time was because I was getting my butt handed to me in CFS3 and was looking around for help because the game was no fun....I have since given up as fighter pilot and have stuck to flying from point A to point B.

Anyways, I don't recall who it was that helped me but I was immediately hooked. This is by far the best place on the net...or in the net...you know what I mean.

Umm...because developers of all kind hang out here.

And because it's a fairly mature place.

SOH is fun 90% of the time. I've been flying Flight Simulator since the Bruce Artwick days. So I have been in a lot of forums. I'm a bit of a lone wolf type so this is about as close as I come to knowing a lot folks. I have met a quite few SOHers in person and ya'll are a great bunch of guys!

I started flight simming in 2005 or so, with FS2004. After finding the WOP aircraft, I discovered there was a huge online community with flight simming. I started visiting the forums of several flight sim sites, could not believe how rude the people were at some of these places, until I found the SOH. People here are friendly, helpful, respectful. Makes it a pleasure to be here.

Great question and I hope this will be a very long and interesting thread :icon_lol:.

I found this place a few years ago when I was searching various Flight Sim Forums and pages, what made SOH stick out was the members, I felt welcome from my very first post and I have to agree with what others have said, this is just about the friendlyest forum I have ever participated in.

There are lots of ther reasons to, the fact that I quickly learned there were actually members of the Aces Team who were members, and the wide diversity of developers of Freeware and Payware, plus we get folks from all over the globe.

But the thing that drew Old Gig here first - the name, I figured anyplace that called it self an "Outhouse" was my kinda place.

I too will use Joe's quote as it is most appropriate here and to borrow a quote from John , " extended family " says how I personally feel about being a member here . On occassion have been known to insert foot in mouth or babble on about something I know very little about but I generally right that off to getting older:isadizzy: . Usually the large majority of the people here at SOH respects one another's opinions and everything works out well . I also find it very interesting and informative at the diverse multi national members who give us their cultural views and other opinions on a wide variety of subjects . That becomes very interesting to me .We all share one thing in common no matter where we are from , our love for aviation and it's history . Thanks to all the developers , where it be freeware or payware who have really made flightsiming an outstanding hobby for all of us .

Happy Holidays to all the members and their families ,

Rich :ernae:

THIS PLACE IS TOO MUCH FUN!!!

I have been Blessed by many folks here..
The admin, and staff are a great group of people..

And those who show up here daily, have in many cases become my friends..
This alone set this place apart..

I am grateful for SOH and Our family here.
God Bless each and every one...

I've been here since before it was Sim OutHouse and to me it's always been the people that make it special.

I found SOH shortly after I bought CFS3, which was my return to simming from back in the mid to late 80s. I wanted to find more planes and paints for CFS3. The folks in the CFS3 forum were just so warm, inviting, and smelly that I felt like I belonged. Then I got CFS2, which I enjoyed much more than CFS3 (just a personal preference...not saying 2 is better than 3...so don't shoot me) and found that the CFS2 forum was filled with folks just as warm, inviting and even smellier! so I felt like I had finally found the family I was supposed to go home with. Then I got FS2004...and found that the folks in the FS2004 forum were the smelliest people on the face of the planet....I can't leave...it's like a commune for people afraid of water or something!

Yeah...that's why I like SOH....the people here stink....and I love you all!

Merry Christmas to all my smelly friends!

Tim

Gee, OBIO. It is Saturday and I bathed this morning. :salute:

SOH is important to me for all kinds of reasons.
  • When I drop in it takes my mind away from the real world of paying bills, going to work, and listening to the nightly news about all the nuts in the world.
  • I find a lot of interesting topics (the technical ones are my favorite). I like the intelligent discussions and humor.
  • I am continually amazed by the various "artists" who can create and improve the FS9 world with their addons of scenery, aircraft, repaints, sounds, panels, etc.
  • And, to round things out, its important to me because all the other members share my interest in aviation history. SOH really enhances the flight sim hobby because of its members.
Cheers

The other major flightsim sites tend to cater more to the "jetliner" interest. SimOuthouse users show a great affinity toward a wider range of aviation, particularly the historic stuff. 1920's to late fifties is my interest, I find a lot of that on these pages.

Major plus, the administrators and moderators put up with my adolescent cr*p. My gratitude knows no end.

I've been here at SOH since it was, well, whatever it was called before it was SOH. :d This site is to me what the internet and sharing hobby interest is all about. In one topic thread you can see posts from the US, Canada, UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Japan - wherever in the world somebody's online and wants to comment. Those people may be all stoked over a new version of their favorite tubeliner and want to tell us about the plane's features, or maybe they've downloaded one of Paul Clawson's FS2002 planes and they're looking for good sound files, or whatever. Regardless of what's being talked about, we all enjoy the flight sim hobby more because of the great group we have here.

I was shown SOH by a friend and i have been hooked ever since. It is just so nice to have a friendly forum to hangout at and it is just so much fun here! Just a great place to be!

I cannot even remember the year I logged in here the first time (it´s that long ago), cause I needed some help and addons for cfs2...(must have been around 2002)

Since that day:
- I learned a lot about flightsims (and how to build and set up everything to my personal favour)
- had tremendous fun with all the news and other oddities posted here.
- I learned a lot about people and their lives far beyond the tip of my own nose (and I came to respect more and become more tolerant actually)
- I like the fact you can get first hand flightsim-news from developers (thanks to all the input!) and many helpful people when sim-things get out off hand
To sum it up: news, advice, friendliness, respect, "thrills" and "kicks"!, etc.

A second home, even though I spent less time here due to real life issues it´s a must to take a look as often as possible.

I love the SOH because of all the people who share the feelings and appreciation as expressed above. It's a great place to share and to learn. The maturity and the variety is a huge plus.

We all have that Comfy pair of shoes or clothes we wear. Soh has that same comfy feel to me if that makes Sense. Creative, witty, intelligent, humorous folks ready to help you out when your in a bind as well as a place to share this wonderful hobby.

Where else on the Web can you lurk in the shadows, post arcane music selections from YouTube, keep a not so politically correct avatar and signature and still be tolerated or at least ignored and not banned for life. The SOH folks are great. Oops! Perhaps, I’ve said too much and drawn to much attention to myself. Quickly! Scurry back into the shadows before they really notice.

SOH is really the only site I visit often. It's definitely the sole website I post frequently on. There's no shortage of differing personalities here. Always something interesting going on.
