Why run the 1.4?

Saw someone in the FSX forum ask for a triple-installer for an add-on plane supporting FSX, Prepar3D 1.4, and Prepar3D 2.x.

Why are some people still running 1.4?

Escapes me, really. P3D got better with each version (although in some versions things got fixed, but new quirks were introduced). A faint guess could be that 1.4 was the version that was most compatible with FSX. I wouldn't want to go back though.

Cheers,
Mark

Mostly for the very reason that Mark states. It's a version of P3D that still allows function of FSX scenery and Aircraft. Once you go beyond that to the 2.+ versions most FSX aircraft are still flyable but the cockpit functionality (VC) is gone. Scenery still works but some of the objects no longer are visible. The funny part about it is that while it is P3D it doesn't contain any of the current (obviously) upgrades or enhancements so it's basically like having two versions of FSX. I don't really see any reason to even have 1.4 anymore.

Of course V2 was a complete new purchase. V1.4 was so buggy though - worse than FSX itself in the crashing stakes. :pop4:

That was me! I asked because the Milviz Phantom for instance isn't P3D 2.4 compatible yet, at least not the version that I bought. In the meantime I switched to P3D v2.4 and ditched FSX altogether. So I was asking/hoping that it would be v2.4 compatible!

It was about the Milviz F-100D by the way.

Ohhh the Phantom.

A bit OT, but I bought the Milviz Beta Phantom and noticed that it's for FSX only. After a painful wait for 8 weeks or so I thought I'd try it in P3D V2.4 anyhow and installed it.
Shouldn't have done so - after the next update it crashed P3D to the point where I had to do a complete P3D re-install.

The lost clickability of the VC cockpit on ___some__ older aircraft is something I also noticed, but this has almost no impact on my rig because I hardly use the VC switches. I have a full Saitek dash set (radio, autopilot + trim + flaps, switch panel) for that. The rest can be accessed via keyboard. What I'm trying to say is that impact of the loss of that functionality depends on how you use it.

A bit worse is that some older gauges seem to act up in 2.4, as well as some effects.

Cheers,
Mark

Only FS9 planes loose the VC clickability in P3D v2.
FSX (native) planes will have no problems, as long as their gauges and modules (dll) are compatible.

But FS9 planes are the main reason some people are still using P3D v1.

I'm still running v1.4!
I am running an i5 laptop, W7 64bit, 4gb Ram BUT with DX10. My laptop only has DX10 hardware & therefore cannot run any version higher than 1.4 that uses DX11!
After installing v1.4 & comparing with my FSX, I dumped FSX! I dont have had any problems with v1.4. No crashes, well maybe 1 or 2, as I have a huge amount of add-ons.

Maybe there are guys with a similar set-up to mine, hence the use of v1.4?

Ahhh, good point, forgot about the DX10 / DX11 issue. That's a road block, of course. No DX11+, no P3D V2.x.

Cheers,
Mark

I also run v1.4 - which I actually prefer over FSX - and have had no big issue's with it.. The only thing I've noticed is on several occasions when on an IFR flight plan, ATC doesn't bring me down soon enough at the destination airport !! Other than that, no other issues so far..

BTW, I also run FSX and P3D v2.3 !!!

If I understand correctly, work on the P3D v2.x Phantom has been halted. First the full deal FSX/P3D v1.x Phantom will be released after which the work on the v2.x will continue...

So in the meantime, we're having to make do with the C9 Phantom portover that works so-so in P3D v2.x. At least I still have a reasonably working Phantom in the sim!
