any chance of some VC screenshots?? i know theres some on the JF page but i like seeing non-PR shots :)
 
Nice screen shots. Number 2 catches my eye especially, although I am not quite sure why.

Is there some texture misalignment on the wing surfaces that I'm seeing?

Also, the cockpit surfaces look too new as compared to the outside of the plane, but I'm thinking that could be addressed by a third party repainter somewhere down the road.

Exactly my thoughts when I bought the Wildcat. It's a nice aircraft and IMO worth every penny, but the VC looks quite artificial and spoils the rest of the appearance.

Darn...can't land this thing. When I trap I nose over every time. My approach is good with correct speed? What's the secret to stop bending this bird?

The only way I have ever succeeded is to not use the hook. On a long enough deck you can approach slowly and land with careful braking.

There are threads somewhere about succeeding with low weight (nearly on empty) and trapping, but I have never managed this.
 
Re tailhook you might try this it works for me.

Make a copy of your aircraft.cfg as a backup.

Locate this section in the working cfg.

[TailHook]

Delete the whole section = 4 lines.

copy paste this replacement in its place,


[TailHook]
tailhook_length = 2.50
tailhook_position = -20.100, 0.000, -0.500
cable_force_adjust = 2.0

Okay, that did it. Now she traps great. Thanks for the info.
 
Of 5 payware taildraggers I have supposedly FSX Accel arrested landing capable only 1 worked straight out of the box the rest I had to fix, for payware not good enough, freeware is acceptable I have fixed many including port overs
 
Sorry Rich but I find your comment far too harsh. Your so called "fix" places the tailhook nearly 6 feet further back from where it is supposed to be. Why do that? Thgat's the same type of "fix"some people apply to undercarriages to make landing easier with aircraft of narrow track etc.

The Wildcat was beta tested by people who had intimate knowlege of the aeroplane. It was never easy to trap and claimed many "victims" . The key is approach airspeed and not applying brakes early. With practice, the Wildcat can be trapped perfectly well if you know what you are doing. Advice was written on these forums when the Wildcat was first released, I am sorry but I can't remember who wrote it now but they referred to the common errors of not allowing for ship speed, headwind and flap usage.

To suggest that "this is not good enough" although possibly your own opinion, is nevertheless insulting to not only those who put the release together but those who created the FDs, tested the final result and gave it the thumbs up.
